HI,
Im looking for any information about the Cummings family. I have a birth cert of a family member in Vic Australia, that list father as William Cummings born Durham England about 1833. His parents are listed as George and Isabella Short on his death information.
He came to Vic before 1864 as he married.

I have no other info

If this is the same William as was with Isabella in 1851 then it shows that it is not the one who emigrated before 1864. .

Cannot find the family in 1841.

In FreeBMD the birth of George age 12 in 1851 may be :
Jun qtr 1838 George Fawcett CUMMINGS Durham district 24 78
Dec qtr 1838 George CUMMINGS Durham District 24 62

FreeBMD has a death Sep qtr 1838 George Fawcett CUMMINGS Durham district 24 49 so that is probably the child born above and would rule him out as being the one with Isabella in 1851. There are several possible deaths of the father George CUMMINGS up to 1851.

Family search has a marriage of George CUMMINGS to Isabella HORSEFIELD 7 Apr 1827 at Chester le Street, DUR, batch M000582. This might be the Isabella who was a widow in 1851 which poses a problem. Possibly Isabella was married before she married George or this is a different Isabella and George.

FreeBMD has death Dec qtr 1871 Isabella CUMMINGS age 74 Houghton le Spring district 10a 317.
I could not find her in the 1871 census.

Not sure about what happen to son George i have found a george going to vic in 1857 age 18 which makes him born 1839? He could of followed his brother as i cant find him after 1851

I thought Isabella may of married before she married george not sure ive been on the durhamrecordsonline to try to find more

The Isabella Cummings, for which Bryan found the death, is listed on the 1871 census, her name has been wrongly transcribed.

Resident at Rainton Gate Houses, Edward is a Grocer, and Mother in law Isabella Cummings, wrongly transcribed as Cunnings, was formerly a grocer.

Hi, just looked up some info on the free cen, the 1871 cen was taken in april so Isabella Cummings would of still be alive as the freebmd says dec 1871 age 74 which would of made her born about 1797, so i think it is her. Least i now know George didnt go to aust in 1857 now need to find more on him, i also think he ahd a sister frances born 1828 not sure what happened to her?

This is probably a different person as it contradicts what others have said but there are a few coincidences. On my line I have a William Cummings born 15 Aug 1830 in Houghton Le Spring in Durham, he emigrated to Australia on the 4th Oct 1855 his wife Elizabeth Holt arriving a year later, apparently they lived around the gold fields of Ballarat, I know they had at least 2 children Mark and Margaret. If this is familiar send me a message as if this is you link I have a vast amount of info about Cummings and goings in Durham :)
