Hi Russell

are you still looking for the marriage conformation of Samuel and Margaret. below is how it is recorded in the Gwennap records.

Gwennap Marriages.
Jacka Samuel, batchelor to Margaret Bray, spinster, 25/3/1790, both mark. Richard Stephens and John Barnnett. I imagine the last two names are the witnesses.

if you need any other dates let me know

Laurie

Hi Russell

that was quick, no I don't have a connection to the familym, I live about 8 mile from Gwennap and enjoy doing the research for pleasure, my tree is as complete as I can go so if I can help other people find the answers then I do.

Thankyou Again Laurie. I also do research for others here in West Aust and enjoy it though the Jackas are mine.
I would appreciate anything you can find on this family in Cornwall. The family became quite famous in South Australia as beer brewers and stove makers. My grandmother was a JACKA.
Thankyou
Russell

Hi all,
got a bit of a link, maybe nothing.
I have an ancestor of mine leaving Gwennap, Cornwall and arriving in Geelong, Victoria 1849. William Bray HIGGANS 1792-1851, wife Elizabeth 1803-1878 and 8 children then settled in Geelong. One of the children, Elizabeth Ann Tremayne HIGGANS 1832-1937 (105 years) married Charles Andrews 1829-1910 and he designed & patented a stove c1877 known as 'Andrews' patent Nonpareil self setting range'.
William Bray HIGGANS (above)was the son of John HIGGINS 1856-1813 and Frances Bray 1761-1827, both from Gwennap, although Frances died in Phillack, Cornwall. I have Frances's father as William 1736.
Hope this helps.

Hi Russell,
thanks for the offer, very kind of you.
A granddaughter of the original Higgans settlers, June PARROTT, who lives in Geelong, has compiled a smashing family research book and I was lucky enough to meet June in London last year and purchased a copy.
I have one or two Higgins/ans families that settled in Victoria, one of which, Enoder Stephens HIGGINS 1836-1892 whose son became Sir John Michael HIGGINS 1862-1937, quite a figure in politics with the mineral and wool trade and has a wing of a gallery named afer himself and Lady HIGGINS in Melbourne.
Would you like an invite to view my tree, free of charge and you can see my Oz connections. Email me at jameshiggins1@sky.com for an invite.
Thanks again and I will get back to you soon,
Jim HIGGINS UK
