Seeking birth record/info of Tolbert Clay abt 1772/3

Would anyone have any idea how I might locate this record way back then. The mother may have been Delphia Clay and the father possible Richard Featherstone. The two were not married. Delphia apparently married William Cleaton per notes from "Adventurers of Purse & Person" by John Frederick Dorman. they may have moved to Mecklenburg Co around 1780-1785. Tolbert is possibly my gggrandfather. Thanks in advance for any ideas on where to turn to locate the info.

Hi,
You cannot
The state o Virginia did not keep any records of births or deaths until 1853.

Before that we have to glean the info from Bible & family records, old to,bstones, etc.

The Library of Va. has some Bible records on their website with online umages if you have a Tiff viewer which most newer computer programs already have.
They recently changed the site some and now it is not as easy to navigate as it used to be but you can still see things.
Their main page is:
http://www.lva.virginia.gov/

Here is the archives & manuscripts page where you can search for Bible records I put like Carter family Bible as an example.

Good luck.
