Season's Greetings... and unwanted cert, and misc info.

Season's Greetings to all you Bretherton researchers. I hope your individual research endeavours are going well with not too many brick walls?!

I've an unwanted marriage certificate for a William Bretherton (engine driver) and Mary O'Connor, 1891, Aigburth, Liverpool if anyone is interested?

Keep trying the Free BMD site - the Brethertons being listed increase monthly. I've already located several GRO references for ancestors thanks to the dedication of the volunteer transcribers.

For anyone with a connection to Bartholomew Bretherton, coach proprietor and owner of Loyola Hall, Rainhill, I've discovered a site refering to his riding a winning horse (Jerry) at the Grand National. Again, contact me for more info.

I've also come across a useful FREE site which includes summaries of Quarter Sessions etc for English counties. It can be searched by surname and record type. Great for discovering court appearances, bastardy bonds, removal orders etc.

Best wishes for your continued ancestor hunting,

From Gabrielle,

Surnames: Bretherton
I believe the website referred to is mine. I myself am interested in getting additional information on Bartolomew Bretherton and would be delighted to hear from any of his descendants who know a little about him.

Hi Steve,

The main source of info re Bartholomew Bretherton would be Audrey Ansell in New Zealand. She is a descendant of this branch of Brethertons and has recently published a book on the family.

I'll contact her with your details so she can email you off-board. I think you'll find that she'll point out that the Bartholomew Bretherton riding in the Grand National could not have been 'the' Bartholomew Bretherton, coach proprietor of Rainhill - something to do with dates. I gather that Bartholomew was a name frequently used among these Brethertons, so he may have been a nephew. Anyway, I'm sure she'll know.

Bye for now,

Gabrielle
