Gravesend Cemetery Inscriptions

Can anyone tell me where I can locate the inscriptions for the old Gravesend Cemetery. The book of that name, which is on the ancestry website, doesn't actually include the old Gravesend cemetery.

Thanks,
Kathi

By the way, I forgot to mention that this Gravesend cemetery information is from the actual books compiled by Frost and Stillwell and not from the mistaken Ancestry or Heritage Quest databases.

How interesting that the book does include the inscriptions. I wonder what happened in the transfer of the data to the ancestry website.

Again thank you. I have a question about the abstract posted for Lewis L. Morris. Do you happen to know whether the abstract reported by Moorhouse is all that is available or whether I would be able to obtain more data from Kings County?

Thanks!

You can get copies of documents concerning wills, guardianships and letters of administration from the Surrogate's Court in Brooklyn from the 1700s to the present but it will cost you a small fortune to do it by mail. You have to contact them and find out the latest rates. If you know someone willing to do it in person then I believe there is only a photocopy fee.

In answer to your other question....
Ancestry.com and Heritage Quest have mislabeled a completely different Josephine Frost book in their database as her 1913 Gravesend Cemetery book. They're wrong.

Hello.
I went to the Brooklyn Public Library yesterday to have a look for myself at the 1892, William H. Stillwell, Gravesend book that I have read so much about. While I was going through the baptismal and marriage records I found some MORRIS entries, I remembered posting to you so I jotted the information down. I don't know if you have it already but here it is:

Baptismal date: 21 Apr 1814
Lewis and Catharine Morris, Parents
John (born 24 Dec 1801)
Lewis (born 26 Jun 1803)
Lydia (born 26 Sep 1804)
William (born 10 Feb 1809)
Gerrit (born 13 Sep 1811)
Peter ( born 28 Aug 1812)

Bap. date: 21 Jan 1816
Lewis and Catharine (Woolsey) Morris, Parents
Stephen (born 28 Dec 1815)

A marriage date of: 13 Mar 1837
Stephen I. and Catharine (Morris) Voorhies
Bap. date: 8 Oct 1861 for Mary Anna - Stephen and Catharine (Morris) Voorhies, parents

Title: History of the Reformed Protestant Dutch Church, of Gravesend, Kings County, N.Y.
Author: William H. Stillwell
Pub. info: Gravesend, Printed for the Consistory, 1892.

I can't really say if I got all of the MORRIS entries in the book, but I think I did.
