Anyone else researching these names all originate from St Neots.

I am trying to locate my ancestor William Dilley/Dilly. I have reason to beleive he may be from St Neots. So I don't have to repeat myself here could you please read my thread "William Dilley" posted 16 June and see if you can help me in anyway.
Thanks
Lea-Anne

Hi Lyn,

Me again!

Have a look at http://boards.ancestry.co.uk/localities.britisles.england.bd...
where I think I've found where the Dilleys of St Neots came from - Wilstead in Beds, via Yelden

Do you have the St Neots baptism transcript?

David

Hello David
Unfortunately i do not have the baptism transcript for St Neots, only a few baptism's for some Dilley's, i have to admit i have not done much research for a while as the Dilley's were driving me insane, i have not been able to get passed Richard Dilley my 3x Gt Grandfather, i have a death certificate for a Richard Dilley that died in the Eaton Socon Workhouse in 1858 aged 72.
The 1851 census for a Richard Dilley aged 64 born c 1787 gives a birth place as Welsh Hampton, Beds.
My 2x Gt Grandfather Thomas gives his place of birth sometimes as St Neots or Abottsley.

Hi Lyn

That Richard Dilley is one I'm struggling with too! It's not helped by his burial entry on the NBI giving his age as c64 in 1858, so your 72 on his death cert is a big help. Have you seen his entry in Bedford Gaol in 1855 http://apps.bedfordshire.gov.uk/grd/detail.aspx?id=12310

He got 21 days for assault - at the age of 69! Smacked someone with his zimmer frame perhaps. There he gives his birthplace as Cotton End, Beds, whereas the 1851 obviously means Wilshamstead, now Wilstead, which is next door to Cotton End. I can't find his baptism though, and he seems too old to be the Richard aged 10 who was removed from Wilshamstead to St Neots in 1806.

Is he the Richard who married Anna Morton in Abbotsley in 1817? Do you know if a parish of residence other than Abbotsley was given? St Neots perhaps?

I've just ordered the St Neots baptism PR fiches. If I find anything I'll post details.

David

Hi Lyn

I think I'm making progress. Could you send me a message (just click on my profile) with your email address and I'll send you a report, which is too big to post on the message board

David
