My great grandparents were Susan Shonk (1840-1917) and Mathias Wolshire (1835-1879). They lived in Fairfield Co. Ohio. I would like to make contact with anyone who is researching this family and will share anything that I have about them.

Hello,
Just passing through. Just for interest there is a smallish community of Shonks in Australia (New South Wales mainly). Our side of the family seems to come from Kent and Hertfordshire in England going back at least some 500 odd years (so far as I,ve found anyway). I gather the American side seems to stem from Germany, I wonder if there is some connection a reeeaaally long time ago. Christian names are also similar, Elizabeth, James ,John , Susan and my new grandson Kaleb. Strangely enough my dad Bill was on an Australian ship in WW2 in the Coral Sea and it turned out there was an American ship in the same action with a American Shonk aboard. He came out to visit Aust about 1980.
Cheers
John

Hello Jon, since your mother is doing genealogy I was wondering if you know where your Shonks originated. My Shonks (orginally spelled Schanck) came from Meisenbach, Pfalz, Bavaria, Germany. Any connection with your family?
