I've just started researching my grandmother's genealogy. Her father's surname was OSTERN and her mother's was OMODT. If anyone has any information on which countries these names came from please reply.

My maiden name was Ostern. My dad, James Ostern, grew up in the area of Spring Grove, MN. Our ancestors are from Norway. Does that help at all?

Hi Keri,
I tried to contact you personally but I couldn't see if the first 2 letters of your email were "fo" or "fa". So, I guess I have to do it this way.

We share the same Great Grandfather, Edward.
Your Grandfather was Edward's oldest son, John.
My Grandfather was Edward's youngest son, Ole.

I've been looking for someone to ask questions of and to share information with. You interested? Maybe you will have better luck reading my email address than I had reading yours! Hope to hear from you when you have the time. Keri

There was a Johann Peter Ostern who emigrated from Daaden, Rheinland Pfalz, Germany circa 1753 on either the Rowand or the Edinburgh to Philadelphia.
