Diana: I do not recognize the name Carolyn Hanson, but my genealogical files on the Sherars is far from complete. You could try an e-mail to James Sherar Scott @ JamesS1939@aol.com He grew up at New Carlisle, Quebec and has been collecting his family data. How are you descended from the Thomas Sherar family from New Carlisle-Paspebiac ? My husband's GGG Grandfather m. Sarah Sherar, Thomas' youngest daughter in 1808. I would be most grateful to have a copy of your family research if you are willing to share. I will, of course, then send you anything I have that would be "new" for you. Anxious to see your reply ... Vallena Munro

Thanks Kenneth, I have been in touch with Carolyn quite some time ago. But it was good of you to contact me as I have changed my computer and lost her email address. Diana.

Hello Kenneth,
I am one of your many (Sherar) cousins. My grandfather William Henry and your grandfather Clifford (Clifton) were brothers. I think your sister Carolyn was the one I sent a picture of uncle Clifton to a couple of years ago. We all live in Oklahoma, where are you from?
We use to have a Sherar reunion in Bethany,OK (where uncle Clifton is buried) when my mom and all of her brothers and sisters were still alive. There is only one Sherar from her immediate family still alive and he is in a nursing home not doing very well. It would be nice to try and get another reunion going again.
Do you know if uncle Cliftons 2 sons are still alive, one in Houston and one in Jackson Hole? I would like to get in touch with them and do you have their addresses
Thank you for your help.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. (2004)
Your cousin, Nancy

Nancy,
It was good to hear from you. I live in Bryan, Texas about 100 miles south of Houston. I am still trying to make sense of the family tree (another story) but will give you what information I have (or think I have, anyway). My father's father's name, I am told now, was Clifton Joseph, born in 1883 in Rockdale and supposedly died in 1954. My grandfather had three sons by my grandmother, Lessie Hood. The "Hood" descendant chart shows them to be married in 1915 and that his name was Clifton and that he was born in 1882 but this could be inaccurate. The sons were Robert Clifford Clifton/Claxton (?) "Tim" Sherar (my father) born in 1917 (?) and died in 1992 in Kaufman, Texas. The next oldest was Ted C. Sherar born in 1918. He married his second wife, Faye Bingham in 1943 and they had one adopted son named Ronald. Ted and his wife, both deceased, lived in Cheyenne, Wyoming. The youngest of the three was Parx Fletcher Shearer (different spelling - no one seemed to know why for sure). He was born in 1922 and married Audrey Cunningham in 1952. They lived in Houston, Texas and had three children. They are also both deceased but I can give you the names and last known adresses and phone numbers of the children if you like.
And now for the "other story". My father always told us that their daddy died on the night uncle Parx was born (1922) but when I asked uncle Parx about it he said that he had never heard that and didn't know when he died or where he was burried. We were also told that he was of American Indian descent (one of the Oklahoma tribes, I believe). Now we find, through Carolyn's investigation a few years ago, that our grandfather didn't die until 1954, is of Scottish or Irish descent, is burried in Bethany, OK and possibly had several other wives. Like I said, I am still trying to make sense of all this but the "current" information (names, dates and places) seems to fit and I would like to find out more, If possible.
One of my more immediate questions is: Do you know for sure if John Henry is of Scottish or Irish descent and can we trace the family beyond him? Also, who is the lone surviving Sherar of your mother's immediate family that is in the nursing home?
It might be nice to have a Sherar reunion of sorts sometime so we can visit and compare notes. We have a "Hood" (my father's mother's family) reunion and had a "Kennedy" (my mother's family) reunion at one time, but never a Sherar reunion. Maybe we could include Nancy Anthis (another cousin that I believe you know of) who has offered to accompany us to the Sherar cemetery. I believe she has a daughter who lives in Houston and has some family information that we might also interest in this. By the way, did you ever make it to the Sherar cemetery in Tanglewood? If you did, you were not that far from Bryan.
Well, I know this is much more that you bargained for, but I am desperate to find out all I can about the family, so if there is anything more you can tell me, I would very much appreciate it.
