I need help with Belgium ancestors

Surnames: Van Puymbroeck, pembrook, Baker, DeRidder, DeMaere
I am working on genealogy and have run into a lot of blanks. My great grandfather came here from Vrasene Belgium in 1891. His name was Vitalis Van Puymbroeck, He went back to Belgium in 1906 and married Dorthea Irena DeRidder, who died after there third child. He then married Marguerite DeMaere, she was also from Belgium, but they were married in Baker. I know that Adolph Van Wynsbright (wynsburg?) and Ivo Spriet were the witnesses for there marriage. I know these witnesses are both Belgium as well. I am looking for any information on any of these people, I am wondering why they came to Baker. I also know that Vital's sister Maria Hortense Baker also lived here with her husband Peter. Can anybody help me with any information or knowledge about searching for belgium records.

Thanks,

Kari

I found an obituary for Marcel Spriet who died May 22, 2001 in Baker. I can mail it to you (can't figure out how to send it electronically). It lists survivors who might have known Vital and family.

In order to find Belgium records, look up the RootsWeb International Message Boards and hopefully Belgium is listed there or key in Belgium Vital Records in your browser or Google.

I've not done much outside of the USA but I've heard that you need to gather everything you can before going to the foreign country. Successful Searching!

Hello Kari.

I looked at your other postings and see you have a bit more info on this family than presented here, which is fine. You presented enough for research. My research below may already be in your hands.

I found a family tree that includes "Vetalis Van Puymbroeck". This tree is written by "carenmariestephens". You being "Kari", could be the author of the tree. There is a bit of differences in what this "carenmariestephens" presents and what you identified in your postings here and in the Flanders, Belgium, board. So, I do not believe you are the same person. In the event you are not, I sent this person a message to read this thread and help you. This person, if not you, could help in your quest.

Based on your initial posting, you probably have all of the below information, but I am posting it for other researchers or family members finding it:

He was born 26 January 1870 in Westmunster, Belgium to Carolus L. Van Puymbroeck and Rosalia F. Meersman.

With Dorothea Irena de Ridder, born 24 Feb 1885 in Vrcene, east Flanders, Belgium - 4 May 1910, they had Frederick Van Puymbroeck 1907 to 1986; Rose E 1908 to 1974; and Reva 1909. With Marguirete, they had Frank 1913. (This tree shows her parents as karel Lodewyk DeRidder and Rosalia F. De Clereg)

His sister Maria H. Van Puymbroek was born in 1861 and married Peter deBaker. They had children: Martha 1894, Mary 1895, Frank 1896, Lena 1897, Matility 1899, William 1901 and Isadore 1904.

I find Vital and Margaret are buried in the Mount Hope Cemetery:

If the link above do not work, use the search engine: http://www.accessgenealogy.com/data/MountHope.php and just enter "Puym" in the surname box.

------------Baker-----------------------

Maria Hortense, and Isadore buried at Mount Hope:

Peter is there also, but there is no DOB or DOD info. He is buried in Loc 26, Block 2, grave 2, Maria is in grave 1. A John Baker is in Grave 3.

Obit for Isadore, son of Maria:

-----------Spriet-----------------------
Ivo Spriet is also buried at Mount Hope, along with Alida and others of that name.

The obit for Marcel H. Spriet, son of Ivo and Alida:

Obit for Frank Spriet, brother of Marcel:

Michael Spriet, a later family member:

I will stop this research with the above. Hopefully the CarenMarieStephens is NOT you and you can get help from this person. If she IS you, you've done a fine job so far in your research.

At this point, if you do NOT live in Baker, then a LOCAL researcher is what you need. Hopefully a local genius will find your posting and help. If not, also try other members of the family, the Baker side has several members.

The attached photo is Vetais and Marguirete.

Thank you for your help and research! Caren Stephens is actually my mom, and we are working off of the same family tree, however we still have many unconfirmed dates, and are always trying to update. I have just recently started working on genealogy and have found quite a bit of knew information, we just can't seem to get back any further, or find Belgium records. We have found someone in Belgium who may look up some information for us for a fee.

We are actually from Baker, we have walked the cemetery three times and have not been able to find the Baker's headstones, but we still have a few other contacts to help us find them. Thank you for your help.

Do you have copies of the death certificates and marriage record that were listed above? If not, let me know, I was at the Archives today and found some copies of them.
