That is my family. There is a Naomi born to the same parents in 1830 - it is possible that the first baby Naomi died and then the next girl born was called Naomi too! I haven't found the death or burial record to prove it yet.

The marriage record for Naomi ca 1850 has proven elusive too - she married William (or Thomas) JOHNSON, possibly in Market Deeping.

Have you any more info on this couple? They emigrated to New Zealand in 1859 with the Thomas BALL party.

I am looking for the parents of Mary Ann Crowden, born about 1832 and evidence from census records suggest she was born in Chatteris, Doddington, Cambridgeshire, England.

Mary Ann Crowden married, as a Spinster, Henry Waite (Wait on the marriage certificate), Widdower, on 7th August 1862 in March, North Witchford, Cambridgeshire. Her father's name is given as William Crowden (there is no suggestion he was deceased at the time of the marriage) and his occupation as Bricklayer. The witnesses to the marriage were Bartholomew Hare and Eliza Bailey.

According to my research, Mary Ann Crowden had an illegitimate daughter, Emma Jane Crowden and they are living in the Doddington District Workhouse in the 1861 census.

In the 1881 census, Emma Jane and her husband, George Barker, are living with Henry Waite in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England as lodgers, so this bit of research seems to be valid.

It looks like your Mary Ann was a sister of my ancestor Naomi CROWDEN. Their parents were William and Mary GILBEY (nee GALE).
Naomi was born in Chatteris in 1830. She married William JOHNSON and emigrated to New Zealand about 1859.

I just found your post - apologies for the late reply.

I'd say that your William is a brother of my ancestor Naomi CROWDEN, who was born 1830 in Chatteris. Naomi married William JOHNSON and emigrated to New Zealand about 1859.
