Surnames: Respass and Gill
Martha Respass married Henry Albert Gill in Meriwether County GA (1836). They moved to Bradley County Arkansas. I think she is a sister to the one that married B. Stewart.

Am I glad to find you! This is virtually my first try in tracing this part of the family tree, except for my DAR papers (legacy). I have a photo of "Uncle Church"/I didn't know if it was for Churchwell or Churchhill. (It is written both ways in family records. Are you sure it is Churchill?)
My great-grandmother was Mary Ann (Elizabeth) Stuart (Stewart). (I got into DAR thru' Richard Respass. I also have soldiers named Powell.)

My great-great grandmother was Mary Ann, wife of Benniah.

I know lots more about this family and may be able to transmit photos.

My grandmother's name was Martha Respass Smith! My first name and that of my daughter is "Martha"! Sounds like your Martha was my great-grandmother's sister. She did marry Benniah Stuart.

I would love to get photo copies of those pages in the Respass Family Bible. Did you know that a Family Bible is an accepted authoritative source for DAR application? I would judge the correct spelling is "Respass" because that is the name of the Revolutionary soldier, Richard Respass, registered with DAR in my own legacy papers. Your information gives me info on my great-grandmother Mary Ann Respasses birth and death date. I will see if I have it in my pedigree. Is the pedigree something I can share with others? Let me know. Incidentally, my grandmother, Martha Repass Smith, daughter of Mary Ann Elizabeth Stuart Smith, was called "Ressie".

Dear cousin,
I too am a descendant of Richard Respess through the Respess
Stewart line.
My grandmother was Olive Smith Hobson>Washington B.Smith>Mary AnEliza Stewart>BeniahStewart and Mary Ann Respess>....the rest you know. I joined the DAR in 1971 on the Richard Respess line with help from my grandmother's cousin Ray Barnett. I too would love to have any copies of photographs of the Stewart family as well as copies from the Stewart family Bible.
Did you ever get a response from the person who had this information?
I look forward to your reply.
Olivia Olson

Hello, Ms. Olson,

Iam researching the Stewart/Respess line for a friend. They descend from John R. Stewart a son of Beniah Stewart and Mary Ann Respess.

In your message, you mentioned photographs and the Stewart Bible. Were you able to obtain copies? If so, I would be willing to pay a resonable fee for any copies that you may have.

Have you any information on Beniah's parents?

I look forward to hearing from you! Hope you and yours have a joyous Easter.

Regards,
Ken in Texas

No,I was not able to obtain copies unfortunately. I have been stumped over this line for years, unable to go beyond Beniah Stewart...the earliest evidence I found of him was his marriage in Alabama, but on census records I believe his origin is GA. I have not had any luck finding a father, but with a name like Beniah you would think that would stand out...if you ever come across a will or land records with his name please let me know.

I wish the Bible records would have come through but I never did get any info on that query.

Respectfully,
Olivia Olson
