Harold, I assume you know about the Harvey/Nesbitt book written in 1899 which details the Nesbitt families of Luzerne Co, Pa. If not, email me, as I have a copy. Tom N.

Harold

Do you know anything about a possible NESBITT (NESBIT, NISBET) wagon train going West in 1852?

In his overland diary, my 2x gr grandfather writes from Devils Gate on June 27, 1852: "Heard about 1000 graves. From Wood Creek 200 miles west of Hollman from Ill. [Illinois?] NISBOT & HODGES trains". Sentences merge and spellings are off so not very clear as to what he is saying but appears there were many deaths related to these (or this?) train(s).

Can you help me with this?

Yvonne,

Sorry, I do no have any information on your wagon train. My Nesbitt family left Pennsylvania in about 1856-58 and went to Nebraska. Grandfather (George Nesbitt) joined the Union Army, from Nebraska in 1864, after discharge, he went to Texas and in about 1876 he wenet to Idaho.

My great-grandfather was Robert Nesbitt, born about 1813 or 1814. Family legend says he was born in County Cork, Ireland. Early census indicates he was born in New Jersey. First sighting is in about 1850 in Pittston, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. He married Ruth Ann LaBar(r). They had 12 children: James Polk, George, Wesley, Sarah, Margaret J., Hugh Jacob, Elizabeth M., Osborn G. William Herbert, Alice A., and Charles Andrew.
Any links?

I'm afraid not. My Robert was born in 1839 in St. Andrews, New Brunswick, Canada. I sure wish there was a connection then I would have found my family of Nesbitts'. Sorry.
