Am trying to trace any Wimsetts who are related. My father was William George Wimsett, b1920 Doctor in Glasgow. His Father William George Wimsett, b1894, Professional Footballer from Edinburgh, His Father William George Wimsett, Farmer.
I believe the family came from Kent originally.
I am very keen to find out where the name originated from.
I was also led to believe that I was the last Wimsett in Scotland and Britain!

Hi Rona,

I am looking for the name Wimsett/Whimsett in Kent. I have a Rebecca Whimsett who married Richard Realf in 1836. She tell us she was born in Kent in the 1841 census, however she has died before 1851 so I'm not sure where.

In case this is of any use, these are the Whimsett's I found in the Hollingbourne area in 1851.

In 1851 in Ulcombe, I found Thomas Wimsett, aged 32 born in Boughton Malherbe, and his brother George Wimsett, aged 21 born in Lenham.

In Harrietsham, I found William Whimpsett, aged 25 born in Lenham.

In Lenham, I found Henry Wimpsett, aged 27 born in Lenham.

In the Hollingbourne Union Workhouse, I found Catherine Wimsett, aged 60, widow, born in Boughton Malherbe, John aged 25 and Sarah aged 16 both born in Lenham.

If you have come across Rebecca Whimsett I'd love to hear.

Regards
Rona

My name is Chris Wimsatt, and I have found that in my family's passage from Scotland to the United States in the early 18th century, the pronounciation and spelling of the name branched out into several different versions. It started out Wimsett in Scotland, but in Kentucky, where my primary ancestors moved, they went by Wimsatt, where in the deep South of the United States, the name remained either Wimsett, or in some cases was mutated into Wimstet. As far as I know, there are no remaining Wimsetts, Wimsatts, or Wimstets remaining in Scotland or Britain except yourself.then again, I have delved into no great research on the topic. My eventual plan is to move back to my native Scotland pretty soon though. I had a question though, wherever our last names originated from, there is a rumor going around my family that it comes from noble origins, have you found this to be true in your research of your own name?

Your family is not the Wimpsetts I am descended from. All three of
the spellings are in England, but my family are still, and lived in the
1500's to 1600's around London and in the county directly west from
London. I do not have any ties to the family in England and when
they left England, but I do no believe your family was mine. My family
was in Maryland by 1637 to 1640's.
