Charles PHELPS, b. 1802, Bisley, Gloucestershire

My GGGgrandfather was Charles Phelps, born about 1802
in Bisley, Gloucestershire. He married Charlotte
Yates Dec 23, 1829. I believe they had three sons -
George, Alfred and Charles William and also
four daughters - Harriet, Rosina, Emily and Ellen.
Does anyone know this family?
Thanks, Tracy

Karianne,

Charles' parents were William Phelps (born 1777) and Jane Arundell (married 1797). His siblings were Samuel (1797), Jacob (1800), Elizabeth (1805), Ruth (1807), Caleb (1810), Stephen (1812), Isaac (1814) and William (1816). She must have been a very strong woman to withstand 19 years of childbearing! Charles and his brothers Caleb and Isaac moved to Birmingham about 1830. The rest of the family stayed in Bisley, I believe.

Does this tie in with your family?

Good luck,
Tracy.

Hi Tracy,
from what I can make out the Charles I have is the brother of Lawrence Phelps c1742 who's son was William Phelps c1777. Therefore the Charles born 1802 is his son. This would make him my gtx5 grandads brothers son, my cousin about 5 times removed, does this seem right to you? It seems both sides of my family had a lot of children, then again they had no televisions then lol
Thanks for your help, are you related to this family?
Karianne

Karianne,

I show Lawrence (born 1743), the brother to your Charles, was father to William (1777), and grandfather to Charles (1802).
Lawrence (1743) is my GGGGG Grandfather. That would make us cousins in the same generation, sharing the same GGGGGG Grandparents. (I think that means we're seventh cousins). My cousin David Brown (he's a first, once removed) has done a lot of research on the Phelps family, and has traced them way back in Bisley. There are Phelps relatives all over the world.

I'll gladly share the information I have.

Tracy.

Well, it's lovely to know that we have connected somewhere along the line. I have being doing this tree for 3-4 years on and off, mainly due to the birth of my sons, and I have 956 individuals and 216 surnames altogether so far. I think it is more in the line of a forest now.
I find it so interesting to find out where the family lived, how and where they originated from. No royalty so far but a couple of convicts and a lunatic or two along the way lol. Most of my family is from Bisley, stroud and Gloucestershire so it hasn't been too hard tracking things down and people have been so helpful.
Any info would be fantastic, thanks very much.

Hi Karianne,
Both are on my tree but I am a decendant of Lawrence=Sarah Hooper. Parents of Lawrence were William Phelps=Beata Bolton. Are you looking for anything/anyone in particular.
Regards
Chris Phelps
