I live near Lurgan and have been researching the Dowey family for some years. I have lots of 'Dowey' records but none of a George Dowey born in Lurgan in 1917. I can tell you that a George Dowey was born in Belfast on the 12th August 1908 to William Dowey and his wife Agnes (Shaw). Another George Dowey was born in Belfast on the 3rd of May 1907 (or 1906) His mothers maiden name was Cairns. This George died in Belfast in 1977. Lastly a George Dowie was born in Newtownards on the 6th October 1910. His mothers maiden name was Robinson.

My Great Great Grandfather was Robert Doey who married Elizabeth Adair and lived in the Dowey Best house. My Great Grand father was Robert Dowey his son i think perhaps his eldest son not sure. He was the Manager of the Ewart Linen factory in Belfast. My mummy used to tell me her mother who would have been Robert Dowey's daughter used to tell her about going to the Dowey Best house as a young child. I am interested in finding out any further info re the dowey family tree. I think I may have found the Best connection

ROBERT DOWEY married Elizabeth Best 3 MAR 1823 Dromore Parish, Down, Ireland.

If you have any further info that would be great. Would you know where Robert and Elizabeth Dowey are buried.

Regards

Victoria

Hi Victoria. I am actually Elizabeth's mum. We got our information from a distant cousin who went to the Jehovahs witness temple I think in Belfast. She is a cousin of my youngest brother's wife. The Dowey/Adair marriage is definitely one of my dads ancestors. They were married 04/06/1852.Married Magheralin Parish church died 5/03/1904 Taughrane Dollingstown.Elizabeth Adair, died 18/04/1912 Taughrane. Their son Robert was 22/7/1855 married 1/12/1880 and again 10/12/1907 both in Belfast. My dad was George, born 30/04/1919 in Taughrane, Dollingstown
