Can anyone assist please.

I have a several nominals born in other countries and according to the census returns as British subjects. Where would the births be registered? Would it be in the country of birth or in the uk on return. I seem to have hit a brick wall. One of the births was at sea where would I start to look for any records of this?

Any assistance would be appreciated

regards

Births at sea are registered in England and will appear in the Birth registers as will births to diplomatic families and other ex-pats. People born in other countries would be registered where they were born but as long as the parents held British citizenship (in fomer times only through the father) they could claim that at any time and obtain a British passport even if they did not return to Britain. Try the National Archives.
