I wonder if someone could please help me out please.

My great grandmother, Jessie Bell, born Howdon, Nbl, Sept. 7, 1869 and was adopted without name change by Wlliam and Mary Farrar who were had a shoe store and were shoe & boot makers ( In Jarrow on C1881). Jessie Bell married Albert Whelpdale born c.1868 in Hartlepool in December 1891, son of John and Hannah Whelpdale.

I have no trace of the Farrars after C1881. Could someone please see if they can see details of them or Jessie Bell on the 1891 Census for Hartlepool area. There are two known addresses of the Farrar's: no. 6 Mariner's Cottages, South Shields in the County of Durham and 46 Ormond Street, Hedworth Monkton and Jarrow, Durham County. The Farrar's were both born in Leeds, Yorkshire. William and Mary Farrar married in March of 1873 in Stockton District, Co. Durham & North Riding of Yorkshire.

Checked the 91 for Farrars , can't find them . A few Marys born in Leeds , but none living in Hartlepool, must have gone elsewhere. Don't know if you're still interested in the later
Whelpdales but I found Albert & family in London on 1901.
Albert & Jessie with children;Leonard age 8 born in Erith Kent, William age 7 also Erith, John age 4 born in Belvedere
and Jessie age 1 born in Abbey Wood.Do you have this info?

I know your message was posted in 2004 you may already have the information you need regarding 1891 census for the FARRAR's. I found William Farrar died 1889 dec quarter at reg place South Shields part of Jarrow, aged 62yrs old. Mary his wife is shown as a Widow. A retired Boot & Shoe Dealer. She was living at 6 Mariner's Cottages, South Shields in the County of Durham

On the 1891 census Their adopted daughter Jessie Bell (SPELT JESSE BELL) was 20yrs old. She was a Visitor to John & Ellen Mowbray at 100 Durham Street, Hartlepool, Co. Durham.

I also am following the Whelpdale family from Stainmore, Brough, Westmorland
