I have just received my DNA analysis from Ancestry.com. I'm in Haplogroup R1b and would be happy to share results.

My line descends from Hans Jost Tobe who, with his (then) 2 sons emigrated from Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany in 1741. The sons (including 2 more born here) changed their name to Tobias.

So far, no other male line descendents of Hans are posted to Ancestry.com based on this data

I think this is a great idea. My Tobias ancestry comes from Scotland, according to our family tradition. How did you select a testing company and what type of test did you get?

I took up Ancestry.com on their half price offer of the larger 46 postion test for half price $100 when it was offered
http://dna.ancestry.com/selectTest.aspx

You can also get a no-cost test kit from Sorenson Molecular Genealogy foundation

Thanks! I've ordered a kit from the Sorenson group. Thanks or the heads up.

I'm also from Hans Jost Tobe's line. I would be grateful to you if you would pass on your results.

Looks like Sorenson may have posted my results. Do you know who to find the haplogroup in the data?

My Sorenson results weren't posted from my first submission so I've resubmitted. So far, you are the only Tobias I can find posted.

You and I don't match on 7 markers which means we have a 50-50 chance of having a common Tobias Ancestor in the last 1500 years. Our line descends from Hans Jost Tobe of Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany who emigrated to PA and whose ancestors headed west through OH, IN, and IL. Very few--none that I'm aware of--ended in MI.

You can google for Haplogroup predictors--here's one http://www.hprg.com/hapest5/hapest5b/hapest5.htm. I guessed and then confirmed from your tree that your line came out of New York which I think is the largest grouping of Tobias' and may be Eastern European. As mentioned, mine came from Germany/Switzerland--Western Europe in origen. Your Haplogroup should help narrow that down Wick Tobias Austin, Texas
