My great grandfather came from this region. His name was William Kastloria and it was shorened to Kastl n Ellis Island. Was your name by chance shortened?

No the name was not changed. It has been Kastl for several generations. I found the family plot in a cemetery in Wassersupen Bohemia that went back to about 1800 and all were Kastls.

Dear Bob,
I´ve just found your entry and it caught my attention right away. I am Florian Kastl, gr.son of Michael Kastl, son of Anton Kastl. Our familiy comes from a small bavarian town called Fichtelberg right by the Bohemian border. My great aunt still lives there(83years old her name is Liesel Kastl). For more info contact me.

FLorian,

My family comes from that Charlotenhutte, Bavaria. My gr Grandmother was Katherina Kastl, her father was Franz and his father was Johann.

There is a large grave stone in Wassersuppen with the Kastl name. I have some of the siblings of Franz but not Katherina or Johann. Katherina was born in 1840. Please email me. liebl@execpc.com

THere is also another Kastl in the family named Josef born in Karlbachhutte, Bohemia, Austria in 1863. They all worked in the glass trades.

mY GREAT GRANDFATHERS NAME WAS MARTIN KASTL HE WAS BORN SOMEWHERE IN BOHEMIA. I HAVE JUST STARTED MY RESEARCH. HE MARRIED BARBARA ANDRLIK IN 1876. THEY MIGHT HAVE BEEN FROM CECHOSLOVAKIA. HE WAS BORN IN 1850 AND PASSED AWAY IN 1915. THEY CAME OVER TO THE US IN 1889. THEY HAD 6 CHILDREN THAT I KNOW OF...I AM FINDING IT HARD TO GET ANY OTHER INFORMATION. I'M ALSO GETTING CONFUSED WITH THE BOHEMIA AND CECH AND SLOVAK CONNECTIONS. ANY COMMENT WOULD BE GREAT...ID LIKE TO KNOW IF I CAN GET INFORMATION ON THERE BIRTH PLACE ETC. WHAT THEY DID FOR A LIVING.

I am a g-g-g-granddaughter of Anton Kastl of Bavaria who emigrated to the US prior to 1851. From where in Bavaria he came, I have not been able to discover. I am, however, also related to the Kuhbanders of Fichtelberg. The Kastl and Kuhbander families were very close in the US and I have wondered if the Kastl family had also come from Fichtelberg. Do you know the Kuhbander family? Do you know of a Anton Kastl who married Mary Ann Roderer? I would appreciate any information that you could provide/
