My Great Grandfather was William Frederick NEHRING; who died in DeKalb Co., IL. He was born in Germany. Need the names of his parents. Perhaps his Father was named Adolph. Also in Dekalb Co., IL about the same time, was Adolph Frederick NEHRING; brother to William Frederick NEHRING.
Perhaps a third brother named Frederick lived abt. 1922 in New Haven, NY, aged 90. It is believed there were sisters named Wilhelmina and Recca (Fredericka), who also immigrated.
Let me hear from you.

Vern--

I thought I was onto something, but it doesn't look quite right. Mr Great Grandfather also was William Frederick NEHRING, born in Prussia in 1849, lived in Shelby County, Illinois, and died in Milo, Missourt in 1905. We are probably kin, but not at that level. Best,
John Mutch

Surnames: Nehring, Schmidt
Vernon - Do you have a record of any children of Johann Friedrick and Marie Dorothea Nehring coming to the US? My family emmigrated from Germany in 1886. My Great-grandfather's name is Carl Friedrich Nehring and he married a Dorthea Schmidt. Both my Carl and Dorthea (or Dora) were born in Germany between 1861 and 1865. Thanks.

As my prior message mentions, my Great Grandfather was one who was in DeKalb Co., IL. He came over about 1852. His sister, Fredericke (NEHRING), also was in DeKalb Co., IL; probably arriving some time later. Adolph Nehring was a brother who lived in DeKalb Co., IL; arriving at a later date. It is known that Fredrich NEHRING came to America at a later date; and, he was in the NYC area (Brooklyn, etc.). Although the given name Carl was evident in family history the brother named Carl died young; and, unless there were a second child with this name he would not have come to America.
It may well be that the families being considered were close kin?

I was thinking that the families might some-how be related as the names Dorthea Schmidt and Whilim, Fredrick and Carl Nehring are repeated in each line. I can not yet make a connection.
