Hello. I am descended of German immigrants who
came to America around the time you mention.
I am Keith Adam (b.1963), my father is Wayne
Gerritt (b.1930) my grandfather Gerritt
(b. about 1900). I, too, am interested in the
history of the name. My great great grand-
father immigrated to central Minnesota
around the turn of the century.
Please share whatever information you have.
I will ask my father for more information.
Please send me your e-mail address.
Cheers, Keith

Hello Keith,
Thanks for you reaction. To my knowledge your family is not of German origin but of Dutch origin because the name Zwart is a common Dutch surname that occurs frequenly in the north of Holland. (It means namely "black") And also the name "Gerritt" you mention is a common Dutch first name (written in Dutch as "Gerrit"). PLease send me your e-mail adress and we could exchange a lot of information about Zwart families in both our countries and I could mail you some URL's of Dutch genealogy-sites with English versions.
kindly regards,
freerk zwart.

e-mail adress: f.zwart@hccnet.

Mrs. Grace Swartz,
The information you give is very concise. Could you mention for instance some names of persons and places? The postaddress of the "Groninger Archieven" is: Postbus 30040, 9700 RM, Groningen, the Netherlands.
Their e-mail address is: gronarch@castel.nl

kindly regards,
Freerk Zwart, Groningen.

My great-great grandfather was a Henderk Martens Zwart, born in Emden Germany married a Gepke Tholens. Lived in Mitling-Mark Germany. Son, Marten Hinderks Zwart(changed to Swart in USA) came to USA in 1872. Any connection here? Have been told they were originally of Dutch descent but this is as far back as we have found.

My grandfather Eildert Zwart was born 12/26/1890 in Groningen. His parents were Derk (Dirk?) Zwart (b. 5/11/1867 in Obergum) and Martje Boekout. My grandfather married abt 1920 in Chicago. I don't know for sure when he arrived here, but his brothers and sisters were also in Chicago so he probably came with his parents. Do you have this family in your records? Thanks, Donna

Hello Frank,
I don't know how much you've got to know about your Grandmother "MINNIE RINKES" sinds 18 Nov 2001. But I may still be able to help you.
Through direct male lineage, going back six generations we have a male forebear in common.
I know of all the members of your Grandmother's generation up to the date that they left Friesland for the United States. I would be interested knowing of their offspring.
You might like to contact me at: <dirk_alison@clear.net.nz>
Kind Regards, Dirk Rincke Rinckes
