Charles and Canady Bratcher, who may be descended from John Bratcher the "Indian Spy". In looking for others in the colony who are Georgene's lineage [and allied families], it is interesting to note those living adjacent to the Bratchers.

* JOHN OWENS CONNECTIONS TO BRATCHERS OF WILLIAMS CREEK *

1798...Charles BRATCHER (Breashear) of WILLIAMS CREEK, conveyed land to JOHN OWENS. This was signed in the presence of PETER HAMMACK [who settled on WILLIAMS CREEK also]. Is this CHARLES BREASHEAR, REV. WAR VETERAN, who received 12,000 acres of land in middle TN.?

1799...A WILLIAM BRACKERS is registered by Capt McGavesan? WILLIAM also has a large household numbering some 25 white persons and 1 black. Is this WILLIAM BRATCHER/BRESHEARS FAMILY with whom the Hammacks and McPheters intermarried?

1802...PETER HAMMACK, by indenture from John Counts, for $200.00 dollars bought for himself & heirs land on WILLIAMS CREEK. [tributary of Holston River]. Test: John Myers; Ezekial Crofts; Stephen McBroom.

1806...One Jammack? HAMMACK shows up as Capt, in Alex. Hamilton's Co. with 1 white pole [a young person?]. Henry MOLER and brother Valentine from Rowan Co., NC appear in 1806, also Georgene's proven lineage.

1808...PETER MAMMACK; ELIZABETH HAMMACK [whose widow?]; JOHN McFEETERS [also Georgene's lineage]; JOHN HAMMACK SR. [who is probably the JOHN with Rev. War service from VA., settle on WILLIAMS CREEK. Others in the colony recognized as collaterals to GH BRATCHER lineage. WILLIAM HALL estate; ANDREW MC PHEETERS; JOHN HUMPHRIES [married a Brashears]; JOHN HALL; ROBERT HALL; and a JOSEPH PESHER [BESHER?].

The name Canidy Bratcher, Being associated with Charles Bratcher of East Tennessee (1799-1820) is of interest to me. There is a deed in Spartenburg SC that documents William Bratcher spelling his name as Bracher and Bradshaw in the body of same. His descendants are in the deed index as Breshear. A William appears to be the patriarch of the family who moved with 33 others into East TN. His relationship to Canady not established.
The Canady Bratcher removed from Virginia. For additional information see Census and Tax records posted under Surname Bratcher.
