I am looking for anyone to help me trace a John Unwin's parents born 1857 in Macclesfield, Cheshire, England.

He was married to a Sarah Lucy Jones born 1856, Hulme Manchester, Lancashire, England and they had three children together: Emma 1877, Sarah 1880 and Arthur William 1881.

Sarah died in 1889 aged 35Chorlton and John Unwin later re-married in 1890 to Elizabeth getliffe. Sarah may have been previously married as the 1891 census shows John Unwin and Elizabeth with a further five chidren; Martha Ann 1883 (before they were wed!), George 1885 (before they were wed!), John 1889 (before they were wed!), Thomas 1898 and lastly Ann 1900.

If anyone has any information on Sarah Lucy Jones 1856-1889 or Elizabeth Getliffe 1868 your help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you checked www.freebmd.org.uk? The marriage certs will give you his wives' fathers' names. There's no James Unwin born 1857 but there is one in Macclesfield in 1855.

From the info you have supplied here it seems that you may have misread some items.
Because Sarah died 1889 the children living with John 1891 census as far as George are probably hers. The later ones are probably Eliza's.

According to earlier census

Sarah Lucy Jones parents were David b. 1818 Wales and Ann b. 1818 Cheshire

Eliza Getliffe parents were John n. 1835 Derby and Ann 1845 b. Ireland

John Unwin married ELIZA (not Elizabeth) Getliffe 4qtr 1890
