Ballantyne of Pennsylvania

i am searching for information on a theodore ballantyne. he served in the civil war and was a pvt. co. a, 78th volunteers. i understand that he survived (perhaps didn't see any action) he was my great great grandfather.

my great grandfather's name was edwin ballantyne and he had 8 daughters, one of which was nellie (my grandmother b. 1903, d. 1984). other daughters were alice, laura, jesse, bertha, mary, and 2 others who died very young - ages 16/17 i believe - in a car accident. nellie married edgar cupps who died in 1946.

my grandmother (nellie ballantyne cupps) told me that we had a relative who served in the civil war who was killed at gettysburg. this gives me 2 relatives in that war (or so i think) when i was in 8th grade (eons ago it seems!) i went to gettysburg on a field trip and found a gravestone with the name ballantyne on it. unfortunately, either i could not read, or forgot, the first name on the headstone.

would anyone out there have any information on any of this?

Barb,

I don't know anything about the Ballantyne surname,
but I do know that several Cupps fought in the
battle of Gettysburg. Their names can be found on
the monument there. I don't have much more information
than that. They were from PA, Beaver Falls/New Brighton
area. Hope this aids your search.
