PATRICK MURRAY, born Leitrim, County Down about 1803 was a farmer and married CATHERINE O'HARE,born about 1807 in same locality. They probably farmed on the Annesley Estate lands in the vicinity of Castlewellan town.
They had known family -
JAMES MURRAY, born Leitrim village area about 1826. About 1847 he married at Ballywillwill, an adjacent Townland village, to BRIDGET McMILLAN (daughter of Patrick McMILLAN and BRIDGET nee SMITH). They had a child John born there about 1849 and they then moved to Ayrshire, Scotland where further seven children were born.
BRIDGET MURRAY, born and Christened at Leitrim in November 1829
JOHN MURRAY, born and Christened at Leitrim in November 1832
ELIZABETH MURRAY, born and Christened at Leitrim in May 1835.
There may well be other children.

Hello, My name is Carole O'Hare,i am researching my husbands family tree. Could you be an ancestor of Micheal O'Hare b. approx 1848 Lietrim County Down, father also Micheal Mother unknown. Michael married a Margaret Flynn in 1868, had a son Bernard b. the same year, they were married Lietrim catholic chapel. We do know Michael sen was a Hawker at one time but he also worked on the Annesley estates. Kind Regards Carole

There may be a connection between your Michael and my Catherine BUT confirming that is a different matter! I was told that the name O'Hare (O'Hea/O'Hear) was quite common in the area? As yet I do not even know who her parents were? Ballywillwill Townland I think is about two miles from Castlewellan Town. Originally the Catholic residents there would walk over the mountain 'Rib Road' to the RC Chapel at Lower Drumgooland (Leitrim)for services. I think this would be where Catherine O'Hare married Patrick Murray. There were other chapels at Upper Drumgooland and later Castlewellan itself. Grateful for any more detail you might have or uncover. Their son James created my line here in Scotland but Catherine and Patrick must have remained in Ireland are most likely buried in the Ballywillwill / Castlewellan areas. I was informed that PRONI has substantial Annesley Estate Papers that may well document Murray and O'Hare families as residents / workers over the years

Hello Tony, Just notices your reply, there very well may be a connection to our Mtchael and your Catherine. I know that Michael married Margaret Flynn in Lietrim catholic chapel in 1868, and had a son Bernard born the same year they came over to England around 1870. I also know his Father also Michael leased land from the Annasley estate in 1849. There is quite alot of info on the O'Hare name on the Ros Davies Genealogy site have you tried it? The Flynn side of the family has been easier to trace, Margaret's Mother was Mary McCartan before her marriage, Mary's parents were Hugh McCartan and Margaret McCann, I Would be grateful for any info regarding these families .Best Wishes Carole

Hi I'm looking into my family tree and fin d possible links. M y GGF was a James Murray who went from down to Scotland,. His brother was a Patrick Myurray but I know nothing of him. When did Patrick Murray marry Catherine O'Hare? That would clarify. Regards.

My Patrick who married Catherine O'Hare was born about 1803.
Their son James was born about 1826 but I do not know if he was definately their first child. It seems likely as Patrick would be abt 23 years old then and she about 19/20 years.
Accepting these dates as relatively accurate I would think the marriage would be in the early 1820's.
James in turn married Bridget McMillan and their son John was born abt 1849. It must have been shortly after that date that they came over to Scotland where the rest of their family were born.
