I am descended from Fronica (Veronica) Snavely, born in Lebanon Co. PA, who died in Dauphin Co. 3-24-1806. She was the daughter of Casper Snevely, b. in Zurich, Switzerland in 1702, who came to PA with his family sometime before the Revolution. (He served in the army.) The history of the Snavely family in Switzerland goes back to the mid-1600's. Other spellings were Schnebli, Schnewli, Schnebly. Casper's second wife was Verena Dups, born in Zurich, died in Lancaster Co. PA. They had several children besides Veronica, my ancestor, including sons John Henry Snevely, Hans Conrad Snevely, and Hans Casper Snevely, one of whom might have been the ancestor of your George. There was another brother, Jacob, who died in Switzerland as an infant, and one of the surviving brothers might have used the name Jacob in his family. My Veronica married Henry Lowmiller, who also died in Dauphin Co. So, if any of this sounds interesting to you, let me know. I'd be happy to send you the brief excerpts from the Snavely book that I have.

They had 10 children: Maria m. Henry Hackman; Catherine m. Henry Royer; John m. Catherine Yoder; Jacob m. Barbara Hess; Isaac; David m. 1st Catherine Dohner, 2nd Mary Mollenkopf; Joseph m. I didn't find any of the names you mentioned in the material I copied from the Snavely book. The last ancestor of mine mentioned was Fronica Snavely, daughter of Casper Snavely, the immigrant, b. in Switzerland. Fronica married Henry Lowmiller in 1765, and they are buried in Dauphin Co. Their son, John Lowmiller, married Catherine Long, who was b. 1774 in Dauphin Co. John and Catherine moved to Harrison Co. Oh, where they died.
Catherine Long's father, I think, was Johann Jacob Lang, b. 7-4-1749 in Germany, m. Margareth Waltz, 9-13-1778 in Frederick MD. So, I found your mention of Longs/Langs interesting. I suspect there is a connection. As I mentioned before, your John Snavely may have been the son of one of Fronica's brothers.
We copied only a few pages of the very long Snavely book (over 800 pages). The book, "Snively-Snavely, The Swiss Ancestors and American Descendants of Johann Jacob Schnebele (1659-1743)," pub. by Gateway Press, Inc., Baltimore 1986. We found a copy in the Washington Co. PA Historical Society library.

Sorry I can't help with this. My most "recent" Snavely was Veronica (Fronica), who married Henry Lowmiller in 1765. I know who her siblings were, but not who their children were. Fronica and her husband died in Dauphin Co.

I am trying to find out how the SNAVELY family connects to the STROW family. On the 1850 Knox Co., IL census, Jacob, age 31 and Peter, age 21 SNAVELY were living with Catherine, age 23 and James age 32 STROW. Possibly Catherine's maiden name was SNAVELY? James STROW was born in PA. I am researching William Peter STROW b. 1819 in PA, Cumberland Co. (I am told). I think James was his brother. William lived in PA, OH, IL, IA and MO. I cannot find any records on William until he died in Livingston Co., MO. His daughter, Louise was b. 1847 in OH, place unknown, married Charles HAPES. William's wife, Catherine ALBERTS, also born in PA, but don't know county.

My last name is Snabilié and i'm looking for the origin of the name and my ancestors. Somewhere in time the family moved from somewhere in Europe to Indonesia. My greatgrandfather was Johanes Wilhelmus Snabilié (Batavia 1856 - Koedoes 1926/7) married to Susanne Elisabeth Jansen (Makassar 1870 - Moentilan 1933). I have no information of before these dates. If anyone has any information I would be grateful.
