I'm sure that anyone named Duffer is connected,
and the name Isaac seems to be a family name.
Can you give me a little more info?

Betty,
We may know one another or you may know my parents. My father is Ray 'Sonny' Gryder, s/o Lester E. Gryder and Ethel Mae Duffer from Keysville, VA. Ethel's father was Charlie Flounoy Duffer (m. Meta Lee Moss), Charlie is said to have been raised by John Dan Duffer. His mother may have been Alice Atwel (this was John Duffer's wife). This I'm unsure of and know one seems to know for certain. It has kinda been passed down that Charlie was illegitimate. He is said to have had one brother that lived near Richmond, in the Highland Springs area. Charlie has been dead since 1973. His wife Meta was d/o Samuel Lewis Moss Susan Elizabeth Ross of Granville Co., NC. Any help on the Duffers and especially who John Dan Duffer's parents may have been would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Ray:
I do not have the info you are looking for right now, but I do know that all the U.S. Duffers are related. I will look through what I have and see if I can find anything you need. Do you have info on the early Duffer people? I am missing some links there.
Talk to you soon.
Betty

Betty,
Thanks for getting in touch. I know very little about them. My great grandfather Charlie Flournoy Duffer's father was John Dan Duffer and I believe that John may have been the son of Fleming Duffer. That is just speculation. Charlie was born about 1880 or so. I have the date at home. As I think I may have already indicated, we think he was illegitimate. He was raised by John Dan Duffer. John was apparently married to Alice Atwell. Whether she was Charlie's natural mother...just don't know. For intents and purposes John and Alice were his parents. Hope you can help. Thanks so much!

Dear Betty:
I believe the Duffer family split in france. My relatives moved to Hungery and then later moved to this country.
