I am looking for STEPHEN MAXFIELD. he moved to Shawno County between 1850-1856 from VT., with his wife, LOUISA POLK MAXFIELD. They lived in Shawno Co, about ten years. Two of their children were born there, David Maxfield B:25 Nov 1856, and Levi Maxfield. The family then moved to Fondulac, WI, Any information would be helpful. I have quit a lot of info on this family after the year 1862.

I have some information on Stephen Maxfield who ended up in Fond du Lac. I have the obituary from his wife who has always been considered to have the maiden name Polk. This seems to be inaccurate. Her last name was in fact Annis. Just putting this one out there.

regards,
faye

I have been told that Lavisa's maiden name was Sanford. Who do you have for the children? I have them on my ancestors marriage certificate as being his parents. They came from NY to Wisconsin. Deb

Frederick went by W.F. later in life and married Lydia. If you look in the census for 1870, you'll see them around Shawano. In 1880, they are in Nebraska, Lydia is deceased. I did get a copy of the obit on Mary Catherine. Do you have it. It was very nicely done, especially considering the time period. Women normally only had a few lines. Nice to meet a relative. Deb

Hi Deb,
Yes, I have the obit for Mary Catherine. Your right it is done nicely for back then. As far as you know did Fredrick die in Nebraska? Do you have anything on who Elizabeth may have married? Sarah died June 13, 1881 in Shawano. Never married. William F. or Fredrick and Lydia had an infant son named David Mortimer who died March 19, 1867 aged 1 year, 2 months and 18 days. I don't really have much more than that. Are you Fredrick's descendant?

I am a descendant of W.F. They had the following children:
Frank
Fred
Dayon (Dane)
Moses
David Mortimer
Alice
Levi
Vernon Leroy (he was born around a month before Lydia died and W.F. placed him up for adoption with another family)
This is not an exact order for their ages.
W.F. did die in Nebraska. He and his wife are buried there.
I do not know who Elizabeth married. Do you have any info on David and ?Lovisa? I'm not sure on the correct spelling of her name. I know where they are buried. Deb

Hi Deb,
I don't have alot on David and Lavisa, most of what I have is from the census'. David born 1804 Vermont, died Jan. 8, 1888. Lavisa born 1804 or 1805 NY, died June 13, 1881. Her name on her headstone is spelled Lavisa. You probably know that Lydia's maiden name was Grimmer. Do you have birth and death years for her? The marriage record in Shawano said she was born in Maine. She and W.F. were married Apr. 20, 1862 Shawano. Her parents were William and Clarissa Grimmer. There is more info on Family Search that I haven't had a chance to search yet.

Elizabeth Maxfield married Thomas Grimmer. They had 4 children, William, George, Lillian C. and Levi.
Lillian Married Clark Lewis Davis 29 May 1890 in Omro, Winnebago Co., Wisconsin and Levi died in Omro while cutting a cord of wood.

The Name Lavisa is what I have found on the records however, my grandmother said it must have been spelled wrong for it is to be Lavina. My Grandmothers mother is Mary Lavina Davis and was told the name was from the grandmother.
