I am researching my Garside family in this area around the late 1700's through to 1900 and would like to hear from anyone with research in this area. I have a number of baptisms, marriages and burials for Garside families at the local Parish Church of St Michael and All Angels which might help others.Particularly interested in acquiring a marriage for my James Garside to a Nancy ? circa 1780's.

I am researching my father's great aunt, Mary Garside. His name was Edward Parson, son of Charles and Emily Ann Parsons. I have a sampler made by Mary Garside, dated June 1819, and signed by Mary Garside (no age). My father enjoyed drawing, especially sketching. When I asked him where he got his talent from, he mentioned an uncle, and I can only remember the last name Lupton. My father was born in Salisbury in 1893, one of ten children. When I saw the name Lupton associate with Garside, I had to e-mail you. I do not know his mother's maiden name, but I would guess the Garside name came from his mother's family. I am trying to find out any info I can on his family. His mother is buried at Alderbury, England. If you have any information that might help me I would be most gratified. The sampler I have was found after both my parents died, and the only help I have is a note attached by my mother, which said "Sampler done by my father's great aunt."

What a wonderful thing to own Ann. I wish I could be of help especially as the Lupton name enters the picture as well. My grandfather married a Mary Alice Smith and it was her mother who was a Garside before her marriage. The only help I can offer is that to get the maiden name you are looking for you would need to purchase that birth certificate in 1893 and it would then lead you back to a marriage. Good hunting
