Looking to expand my Rister line and hoping someone out there can help. My paternal grandmother is Dorothy Juanita Rister b. 1925 in Hawley, Jones Co., TX. Her parents were Alvie Rister (or maybe Alva Herring Rister) b. 1890 and died1958, and Ida May Breeding b. 1887 and died 1959. They are buried at Midway Cemetary outside of Hawley, TX. Alvie's parents were David Crockett Rister b. 1845 and died 1923, and Mary Cyntha Doss b. 1849 and died 1932. David's mother was Mary Jane from AL. I don't know his father's name or anything more about his mother including her maiden name. Mary's parents were Limeal L. Doss b. 1820 in AL, and Sarah Ann from AL. Sarah's maiden name is also a mystery as well as any dates on her or Limeal's death. I'm hoping to piece together some more of my ancestors from this information. If you can help, please do.

As far as I've been able to tell, David Crockett Rister's father was John Jacob Rister. I'm not 100% certain, though.

I have 1865 as Limeal's death date. I also have his name spelled Limual. It's hard to know the correct spellings. I cannot find Sarah Ann's maiden name, either.

I visited Fern last week. She has a veritable library of stories, photos and artifacts of David Crockett Rister's history. Go to my page and you will see his photo, and that of his wife, Mary Cynthia Doss. Very interesting!

Has anyone tied this line to the Risters of Posey Co Indiana, and areas of Southern Illinois ?

My line stems from Harmon Rister of Posey Co, and moved into Wayne & White Co Illinois.
I always had assumed that the Jacob Rister in the area was his brother.

Thanks
Steve

John Jacob's sister Martha Rister is my GGG grandmother, she married Thomas Fletcher on 25 Dec 1835 in Troup Co., GA. We have never found her grave, and are no more certain of her birth-death dates than "abt 1810-1881" she is believed to be buried around either Comanche or Brownwood but we don't know. Also, Maragret Elizabeth Rister married Josiah McClung. This McClung tie has a unique tie to my Fletcher family. I'm very curious and interested in examining any more Rister ties, especially as they relate to the Fletcher family.
