This is a shot in the dark but my great grandmother, Annie Francis Kennedy, born 1871, lived her entire life stating she was the great grandaughter of Betsy Ross, maker of the First US flag. She died in 1971. Her father was James Dickson Kennedy and mother was Rebecca Mills. She also stated that she was descended from William Kennedy, a revolutionary war soldier. I am unable to locate any ties to Betsy Ross and DAR keeps telling me there are no descendants of Betsy Ross. Obviously not the case. Any help or leads would be appreciated.

As far as I can find, Elizabeth Griscom did not have any children by John Ross.

I would like to discuss your lineage with you in more depth, seeing as how I'm also related to the Ross' and the Kennedy's.
I'm wondering how closely the two of us are related.

My posting was a little misleading when I used "Ross". I have confirmed that there were no children by John Ross but I think she had children while married to Ashburn / Claypoole. That has to be where the connection is, I just don't know where. As far as the Kennedy's are concerned, every piece of information I have is in the posting. James Dickson Kennedy is my great great grandfather and is buried in the Talpa cemetery outside of Coleman, Texas. He lived in Salado, Texas in the 1870's and moved to Coleman in about 1884.

All help is sincerely appreciated. This has been a dead end for me and I just can't imagine that my great grandmother made all that up.

Have you found James Dickson/Rebecca/Annie Francis Kennedy in any of the US censuses? If so, which years?

neither Rebecca I. Graff's 1893 Claypoole genealogy nor Sam Claypoole/Evelyn c. Bracken's works list your forbears, as far as I can find.

I located them in the 1880 census in Salado, TX. We had a serious house fire back in May (dishwasher) and all of my records are scattered around in boxes and files that were removed while we rebuild. I think they were in the 1900 census in Coleman,TX as I recall.

If you want to communicate via regular email, my personal email is rwdurham166@hotmail.com or rwdurham@vvm.com. I communicated about a year ago with a man in the Dallas area that was also related to Annie Francis Kennedy, except closer to the Kennedy side. I'll try to locate that.

My grandmother Ethelyn Ross, Johnson, who was the daughter of Clint Ross, whose father was Madison Ross, who was married to Martha Ashburn
passed away in 1999 at the age of 94. She always stated that she was related
to Betsy Ross. She said she would have been her Aunt on her Dad, Clint Ross's
side. Since her maiden name was Ross, we always believed she knew this to be a fact. It was interesting to me to know the Ashburn name was listed on your
decendents. I don't know if this is any help to you,

I can't help you to find out weather or not that if you are related to Betsy Ross. I do know that I am related to Johnathan Claypoole. I am related to him through my grandmother. My grandmothers maiden name was Stella M. Claypoole. My grandmother always told me as when I was a kid that we were related to Betsy Ross. I've been to the Betsy Ross house and saw the Claypoole bible that is in the house.
There are a couple of others that I am related to, but I not going to get into them right.now. Good luck in your search.
