My grandfather, George W. Dummitt was born 2/7/1872 in Vanceburg, Lweis County, KY, to Ernest Sanders Dummitt and Serepta Skaggs.

I don't think we have any direct descendency but it's possible that our grandparents/great grandparents were cousins. . .

I'm searching for further connections to our heritage.

William Dummitt (b.abt.1760) was the first recorded Dummitt in America to settle land in 1783 Westmoreland/Fayette Co PA. He established the KY homestead in 1810 in the Lewis/Greenup Co regions after being in KY since 1791 in Mason and Fleming Co's. It's verified that most Dummitt's in KY, MO, WV, OH descend from him. He most likely was at least one generation removed from the Devonshire region of Great Britain. Hopefully more info will follow on him. (The most common spelling of the name in this region is Dommett, but all sorts of variations are recorded). Hope this helps.

My great-grandfather was Sanders Dummitt. His father was George Dummitt who married Eliza Scott. Is this the same man as Rev. George Dummitt? I cannot find the father of George, but it seems you believe it is Wiliam who was married to Catherine, or aren't you sure of this?

Thanks in advance of any help you may be.
