Tomas family from Ireland

Surnames: Tomas, Flynn
My Great grandmother was Bridget F. Tomas, born in 1870 in County Mayo, Ireland. She died in 1930, in Muskegon, Michigan. Her obituary listed two brothers- Patrick and Thomas- still living in County Mayo. It also listed a sister, Mrs. Michael Flynn of Scranton, Pennsylvania. I'm looking on information on both her brothers and her sister. Can anyone help me???? Thanks! reeths@hotmail.com

Did the obituary give the last names of the brothers? Was Tomas her birth or married name?

I was so happy to receive your reply! I hope you can help me! Tomas was her maiden name. She married Dennis Shields in 1888. Her brothers were Patrick Tomas and Thomas Tomas; living in County Mayo, Ireland. Her sister was also a Tomas, of course; but she married a Michael Flynn and lived in Scranton, PA. There may have been more siblings, but these are the only ones listed in Bridget's 1930 obituary. Do you know anything about the Tomas family from Ireland?
I'd appreciate any information at all! Thanks! Jeanne

Do you know the month and day of Bridget's birthday?

If you can tell me that, I can see if I can find her record in Ireland Births & Baptism records.

I'm not related to this family but my family came from County Mayo so I thought maybe I could help.

If you go to www.familysearch.org, you can look for Bridget's birth information to help you narrow down the search to a place.

Looking at http://failteromhat.com/griffiths.php you can search for the Tomas name in County Mayo and it has 10 results which is good because it narrows your search.

Then if you go to the Ireland Census at http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/ and search the Tomas name in Mayo, you will find 34 results in 1911 and on the 1901 census you will find 18 results.

Also, you can look at the current Irish phone book online at http://www.eircomphonebook.ie and find 5 listings for Tomas with addresses and phone numbers in County Mayo.

On the 1911 Census, there is a Patt and a Thomas in Belderg More, so maybe they are her brothers.

With this information, hopefully you can sift through it and figure out your answers. I hope this helps.
