Hi most of my mothers side of the family worked on the canals up to c1950. I am trying to find out information on the following surnames - Watkin(s), Howard, Jones, Hall, Statham, Littlehales, Edwards and Roberts (although the Roberts side didn't work the canals until c1930). I know they worked the Shropshire Union, Cheshire and Montgomeryshire canals. Any help would be greatly appreciated

I have the Statham family in my tree so would be interested in anything that you have there.

Sisters = Hannah Statham (1887) and Mary Jane Statham (1891)
Father = William Statham

I have a Nellie Statham born c1917 in Shebdon near High Offley, father William. I can't find a birth for her although she should be registered to Newport so I have no idea who her mother was. She married William Broomhall in 1939 and moved to Wolverhampton

Where were your Statham's born. Does the surname Hall appear on any marriage certificates you have?

Can't see a connection yet. Were your Statham's on the canal? Mine were a boating family. George Henry Smith married Hannah Statham in 1908. Hannah was born in 1887. Her father was called William. They worked the canals from Cheshire to Birmingham, and from Birmingham to London (Grand Union Canal). The Statham's were a huge boating family so there may be many different branches. Looking for a link to my branch.

They were boaties yes. They seem to have worked the Shropshire Union canal and all I know about Nellie is that she was a cousin of the Watkin / Howard side of the family. I only found out about her when I made contact with a long lost great uncle

I've got a John Henry Bannister who was a witness at a marriage in High Offley in 1915. My Jones' are Mary Ann Jones who was born around 1840 in Shrewsbury and she married Charles Howard and died in 1927 in Chester. Her father was Edward Jones but I don't know anything about him other than he was a boatman
