Help! Can't get Family Tree Maker 2011 to run

A hardware crash forced me to buy a new Dell Laptop running Windows 7 Home Edition.

I have installed FTM 2011 on the new laptop, but it refuses to run when I diuble click the icon. There is no display and no error message - but I can see the process "FTM.exe *32" in Windows Task Manager, which suggests it is running.

I am running a fully updated version of Windows 7 64-bit. I run McAfee.

FMT 2011 worked on my previous PC which had Windows XP (32bit) and Norton Internet Security.

I've looked at some of the many posts on these message boards detailing the same problem, but I can't find a thread that ends in an answer.

Can someone please advise?

Many thanks

I have solved the problem.

I installed FMT2011 to a different folder than the default one.

I uninstalled FMT2011 and re-installed with all defaults. When I ran it, it auto downloaded an update, and it now works fine.

The other thing to do is to right click on the .exe file and choose "Run as Administrator".
