Hi

I am trying to research this surname and am not having much luck - however I do know that my grt, grt grandmother Matilda Peters married a Benjamin Pountney born c. 1872 in the warwickshire area. I believe he may have had 2 siblings Thomas and Henry and his mother was called Harriet - I also know that this particular Pountney has his occupation as 'Traveller'

Be interested in any further information you may have?

Kind regards

Richard

I am also researching Benjamin Pountney, with a father of the same name, both from Birmingham, UK. I have found information on a Benjamin Pountney that immigrated to Saint John, N.B. and was later adopted. Some information is on the Middlemore Index at
http://www.bifhsgo.ca/special_projects/home_children/Middlem...
and you can also check the census data for NB in 1911.

As well, the NB archives site has some BMD information about his marriages.

Are you a relative?

Benjamin Pountney (b.1901) is my husband's grandfather. We don't know much about his parentage. From what I've been able to find, Benjamin had a sister, Hilda, who married John Edward Frost...who incidentally is the nephew of Benjamin's first wife, Ozilda Morton. Someone suggested that Benjamin had a brother, Cyrus, but that is not confirmed.

Feel free to email me (zweena99@yahoo.com) if you'd like to exchange info.

I haven't come across those names in my research, but then I don't know much about Benjamin Pountney's (b.1901) parents. Your ancestors could be related. I do know that the marriage cert for Ben Pountney and Nellie Walton listed Ben's parents as Benjamin Pountney and Zilda Lucas. Since his first wife's name was Zilda, I wondered if he made up the information.

Ben Pountney's story was that when he was young, his mother died. Then his father, a sailor, put his children in an orphanage from whence they were shipped off to Canada.

Does this match any info you have?

Hi Richard,

Been a few years since you posted above, not sure if you will see this or not. Today I had to reset a password and the hint I had left myself was "father's mother's maiden name", which is Pountney. Then I got curious to see if I could Google and find any pics of the side of the family we lost touch with.

My sister is Jo-Ann above who you were messaging back to. I'm John Daniel, but I go by Daniel. John Frost is our late father, his father John Frost Sr. our late grandfather married Harriet Pountney. Harriet was sister of Benjamin born 1901, 3rd sibling was Cyril I believe. I believe all 3 and their father also Benjamin Pountney were born in Birmingham. John & Harriet's daughter (my aunt) is still alive and well in her mid 70's I think, here in the Halifax, NS area.

Hi Bowgrey/Zweena,

Responded to Richard a moment ago in this thread as well :) Is there a Pountney family tree somewhere we can click on to see where we all fit? My paternal grandmother Harriet Pountney preferred the name Hilda. She did indeed marry John Edward Frost Sr. They had 2 of 4 children that survived infancy -- my father John Edward Frost Jr., and my aunt Hilda (still alive and now Hilda Berrigan).

Harriet and Benjamin had a 3rd sibling, but I believe his name was Cyril not Cyrus. I haven't started to poke around on info around Cyril, but happy to learn what you know or help search :)

Regards,

Daniel

Hi Daniel,

I have a tree that I've started. Look for Marion Alice Pountney. I will try to add you as a guest if I can figure out how to do it.
