I am trying to get information on Charles Henry Guest and his business's. He set up as a Motor Engineer at 134 London Road Derby in about 1902 and in 1921 moved the business to 40-42 Midland Road. He was the first dealer for Wolseley Cars in Derby and also ran a car hire business in 1921

Yes thanks I have all the details of Census and Directories and photo's of homes etc but am lacking more information on his business in Derby. I have BMD certs and recently obtained Jane Ann's death cert and went to Birmingham Archives and found where she is buried. He moved from Birmingham sometime around 1901 and became General Manager of R W Webb Ltd Draycott before setting up his own automobile business in Derby, first at 134 London road and later at 40-42 Midland Road.
Anyone know who occupies these addresses today?
I an a Canadian resident so visiting UK locations is limited.
Regards
Margaret

Have you tried Google Maps? Go to
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps
and type in 134 London Road Derby, and click on streetview and you will see the area as it is today. You can pick out the number 132 and I believe 134 is behind the white van. You will have to rotate the image to get this. I seem to remember the last time I passed the building it was a motorcycle shop.

Google obviously did not go to the part of Midland Road that you are interested in (40-42)but by typing in 42 Midland Road Derby you will see it is now a hairdressers.

By the way, Midland Road is just around the corner from 134 London Road.

Regards

Thank you this was most helpful, I was able to find the hairdresser by entering from the other end. I have now written to the Derby City officials to see if I can get some property history. I'm planning to write up this man as he was an amazing engineer and inventor, has many patents attributed to him and designed a bicycle in 1890 called the Guest & Barrow safety Bicycle. His father died when he was 2 years old and he was raised by his mother and step father in Scarborough.
