Hi Audry,
I'm also a decendent of the Birtwistle family. I was born and raised in Preston, Lancs, and my G.Grandfather was Mark Birtwistle. He is part of the Great harwood Birtwistles. His daughter Elizabeth was my grandmother. Have you visited the web site at www.familytreemaker.com? I went there and not only found my family back to 1150, but I now live on a small island in the San Francisco Bay, and I found I was related to the former Mayor of our city some 13 generations back. I just had lunch with the former Mayor's brother today, and my whole family is invited to their next family reunion.

Hello

My husband's family is also descended from the Great Harwood line. His great grandfather is listed in the book on Birtwistles on page 54 (James b 1849). My husbands mother is a Birtwistle.
What year was the Mark you are referring to born? The book only goes to 1850 and I did not notice his name.
I will check out the website you mentioned.
PS We live in Canada.

Hi Bonny,
My G.Grandfather was Mark Birtwistle, and he was the publican of the Judge Walmsley Inn that is on the border of Whalley and Billington. Mark was born in 1850, and he was married to Lucy Mercer, and they had 4 children. Elizabeth,b. November 11, 1877, Alfred, b. 1879, Herbert, b. 1882, and Louisa b. 1883. The last 3 birthdates are approximate from the 1891 census. My grandmother Elizabeth Birtwistle married Richard Mayor whose parents were publicans of the Angel Hotel in Accrington Rd, in Burnley. Elizabeth and Richard Mayor had 10 children. Elizabeth's brother Alfred was a Grenedier Guard and he was killed in 1917 in the Cambrai retreat in France. Alfred never married. Herbert married a lady named Mary Isherwood, and they ran the Railway Hotel in Lostock Hall nr. Preston. Herbert and Mary had 6 children May,b.1908 Mark,b.1910, Lucy,b.1912 Fred,b.1918 Herbert,b.1920,and Agnes,b. 1923. Louisa Birtwistle married and lived in Manchester. She had one daughter named Lucy who never married. If you have any information on these people living or dead I would appreciate an e-mail to RNHoneydu@bigplanet.com. Thanks from Elizabeth

Hello Elizabeth

I looked through the book again and found a Mark born in 1850. His siblings were John, Elis and Eddleston. Would this be the same Mark? The book stops slightly past 1850, although the book is titled "The Birtwistle Family 1200-1850 AD". If this is the same Mark, then you are distantly related to my husband as he is descended from Thomas Birtwistle b 1724 and the Mark I refer to is descended from William b 1728 and both are sons of James and Elizabeth (Waddington)Birtwistle.
I will do a little research when I have a bit more time. Please let me know if the siblings are a match, then we will know for sure.
Regards,
Bonny
