Cynitha:

I do not have anything on Emma Hadden but my grandfather was Paul Wilhite Hadden. He was born on March 14, 1902 in Ponca City, OK. I don't know much about his life but that his parent were George Hadden and Sara Wilhite. As far as I know he lived in Galesburg, Il for most of his life.

If this is any help or if you think that this might be some relation to Emma Hadden, please let me know.

Thanks,

Nancy Roche

Hello....the name Paul W Hadden caught my eye. By any chance did he have a daughter named Betty Bernice? I was born as Paul Keith Hadden and adopted at age 2 weeks, and Betty Bernice was my birth mother. Is there Cherokee heritage in your family? I'm told that I am 1/8 Cherokee, which would have made Betty Bernice 1/4. Ponca City isn't THAT far from Oklahoma City, where I was born. Any information you might have would be appreciated.

I am so sorry for not paying attention to my postings, Paul I am not sure about the information that you are speaking of, I do know that when the Hadden men came to Oklahoma, they came to marry Indian Women. The Haddens came out of Texas, they had a ranch around Ponca City. Maybe we can share more information, you might be able to help me and I you. Hope to hear from you soon. once again I am sorry that i have not answered sooner...

Apparently we are talking about the same group of Hadden men. I have since found out that Betty Bernice was NOT the granddaughter of Oscar.........he was her UNCLE.......and he had a huge buffalo ranch near Ponca City. Oscar was indeed married to the granddaughter of Chief John Ross. I'm not sure which of his brothers was Betty's father, but I do know that 5 brothers settled in close proximity. I have since located Betty (married name is Garrison) and they live in Tulsa. I have spoken to her once on the phone, but she chose not to talk with me about my birth and adoption, so I don't have anything further on family history. I DO appreciate very much your reply.

Had to use this message board because your email address didn't show.

If you'll email me at mikelharvey@hotmail.com, we can share what information we have. I'm interested to know which of the Hadden brothers was Betty Bernice's father and anything I can find out along that particular family line. I have reason to think that her mother was also Cherokee, perhaps even the younger sister of Oscar's first wife. (Brothers marrying sisters was fairly common in the early 20th century).

Emma Newton Hadden Cass was the daughter of Mary Jane Cotton and William Newton Hadden, born December 1866 in Texas--probably Live Oak County--and married 8 Aug 1886 to Andrew J. Cass in Llano County, Texas. She was the aunt of the Hadden brothers who settled in Kay and Osage Counties, Oklahoma.
