My gr-gr-grandfather, John GUINANE of Annagh townland, Murroe Parish, east Co Limerick had a sister Mary GUINANE, born July 1823 in Annagh. She married James DUGGAN on Jan 15, 1845, in Murroe Parish, and had 3 sons before emigrating to US: Stephen (1846), Martin (1848) & Timothy (1849). The family moved to Colorado, via St. Johns, Nebraska. They had a farm on the Platte River in Littleton, CO. Much has been written about Martin, who became the (in-)famous Marshal of Leadville, CO, during its heyday. The History of Leadville & Lake County by the Griswolds gives extensive detail.
Although not complete, I have quite a bit of info on this family. Children born in the US were Thomas, Kate, George & Maggie. Many are buried at Riverside Cemetery, Denver. Any more info welcome! Nancy Peregrine

I am also researching the GUINANE family. My grandfather was John J. GUINANE, b. in December, l866. His father was also John GUINANE, married to Mary Curry. I have been unable to find his birth even though it should have been recorded and at this point I believe I have been searching in the wrong county. Family lore said he came from Ennis in County Clare but I am beginning to think he might have been born in County Limerick and then the family moved to County Clare. I have a lot of information from l890 (when he emigrated to New York State) but have little on his family. I do know he had a sister named Mary GUINANE and also Ann GUINANE, both of whom came to New York State. Do you have any more information on your grgrandfather's family? Any connections?

Mary,

My great great grandfather, Michael Duggan, was probably James Duggan's brother or cousin. I'm the family historian and have extensive information on our clan. Feel free to contact me at bill@billduggan.net.
