Looking for any info on the family of JOHN GLENDINNING in the W.Allendale/Coal-Cleugh area of Nbl.
John b@1834 married Ann, their children were: Alfred b@1871, EMMA RENWICK b@1873, Jane-Ann b@1875, JOHN-JOSEPH b@1877, Nicholas b@1880.There may be others.?

John-Joseph fought at Klip Drift S.Africa and died 1902. The water fountain in Allendale town is dedicated to him.

Emma RENWICK left Allendale and married GEORGE W ARMSTRONG across in North Shields/Tynemouth. George`s father Matthew and mother Mary Barrow was also from Allendale.
Any info gratefully received.
Tracy.

The Glendinning families are still in Allendale. I am related, but from several generations back. I have a wealth of information on the Glendinning families of Northumbria and Durham. I also have an old postcard showing the Glendinning memorial which is situated in Allendale itself. Please Email me for more information. My alternative Email address is sclarke@totalise.so.uk.

Hello, While looking if any one has information on my family from allendale JOHNSON, I noticed your GLENDINNING enquiry. I have a booklet of old postcards and it has the photo of the fountain erected in 1903 in menory of Trooper John J GLENDINNING who was killed in the South African war. I also noticed an item listed: Hayden Bridge St Culthbert Memorial. W GLENDINNING Sergt Northd. Fus. In Memory of the Men of the Parish of Haydon who gave their lives for King and Country in the Great War 1914-1919. The booklet also mentions a Nichol GLENDINNING 1930 Builder. and there is a photo of The May Day Fete, 1908- In the large group of children is Amy GLENDINNING, and Maggie GLENDINNING.
Hope this is of some help,
Best Regards.
Dianne Tregerthen from New Zealand.

Hi Dianne,
Thanks for the info you have re. Glendinning, Trooper John Joseph Glendinning is indeed my G.Grandmothers brother. He died at Klip Drift in South Africa, the water fountain is still used & is in reasonable condition.
The other names I`m not sure but will keep in file - you never know. Thanks again for your reply, hope you have luck searching for your Allendale ancestors.
Take care.

My name was Sharon Glendinning before marriage.
I have information on the Allendale side of the family, and can also furnish anyone who request it, a scanned image of the Glendinning memorial postcarde printed in circa 1910.
Have also been extracting Births/Marriages and deaths from each quarter of the St Catherine's registers from 1837 (still working on it). If anyone would like me to do a search, and give you the remuniration district number for the Glendinning you are searching for, feel free to email me.

I am gathering this information so that all Glendinning's can benefit.
Regards
Sharon

hi, just noticed this thread, i went to school in hexham, queen elizabeth high school, with some of the glendinning family. dont know if this would be the same ones that originate from allendale.
i know richard still lives around the hexham area, but my best friend at the time christine glendinning emigrated to the states while we were still at school. im pretty sure that family went to long beach california.
oh, im 34 yrs old by the way so its...... a few years since i left school.

My mother was a Glendinning, one of 9, who originated from Allendale area - she was b 1952, her father John Joseph and mother Annie Parker, not sure year of Johns birth but died 1970. Most of the family still live in the Allendale area if this is any help! I can ask my mother if you need further info.
