Surnames: McKOWN, McCOWN
Searching for information on and/or descendants of Archibald McKown. He first appears on the Henry Co., VA, personal property tax list of 1801 (not in 1800 or before). Listed on the special 1813 list (first to specify race) as "mulatto" with wife Mary and older son Daniel. Last listed there in 1820 (not in 1821 or ff.), presumably about the time he and his family moved to Indiana, where he was counted in Union Twp., Rush Co., in 1830-40-50. In 1850 he's listed as "Arsaville McCowen," b. c1772 VA, a mulatto farmer worth $6000; nearby were the households of his sons James (c1798), Archibald (c1803), Constantine (c1811), and Tarlton (c1815). Many of his children and grandchildren later lived in the Longtown settlement (Darke Co., OH). Any further information greatly appreciated.
