!MILITARY: 'NC Regiments 1861-1865, Vol II', by Clark, at OBCGS, '29th regiment, by Brigadier General Robert V. Vance', pg 493, states that '... a noted man from Madison approached the guard line. The sentinal cried 'halt, who comes there?' The old man said 'A man with 7 sons in the Confederate army, and you can't keep me out.' Could this have been Solomon? I know that he had 5 sons in the Confederate army. Perhaps he was exaggerating or perhaps two of his other sons were also in the army (or maybe the home guard)?
