Hello Mathew,
I have been doing my f. tree and was trying to find out when Sarah Elizabeth Lambden born 7/10/1868 left Basingstoke to go to Sth Africa. Where do I go for ships departures around 1891 perhaps from Southampton? This is my first time to do any of this on Internet so I'm not sure if this is what I'm to do. Could you please help? It would be really appreciated. Thankyou.
Helen

Hello Faith
Thanks for your message. John Baverstock (1827-1913) did indeed have a son named Frederick - Frederick John Baverstock (born 1865 Reading, died 1933). However I have found a discrepency in your message as the Frederick in my tree did have a son named Charles (born 1895) but he was Charles James Baverstock, not Charles Albert.

Frederick served in the Berks Militia and the army in WW1 and the names of all his children (Frederick, Ernest George, George Henry, Charles James, Harold Mark, and Reginald Victor) are confirmed in his army papers as well as on the census.

Are you sure this is the right family as there is no Charles Albert Baverstock in my Baverstock family? Can you give me more information about your Baverstocks and I can see if I can find a connection. You can email me at matthewsdonovan@hotmail.com

Hope to hear from you soon

Hello Mathew, Thank you for replying. I have sent you 2 email's on how i got to thinking that John Baverstocks son Frederick is my Grandfather, but like you say my Frederick is most probably from a different line of Baverstocks.
Hope to hear from you soon

Hi Matthew
I Hope that you may be of some help I have just started doing my family tree and come across the name Baverstock
My Great Grandfather was James White Born 1847
His father was George White Born 1822
And his Father was Moses White Who married Maria Baverstock.
You put their marriage as 1835 when I checked the http://www.familysearch.org site
They have it as 1815 do you think they are the same line of Baverstocks.
Also can you suggest the best place to do further research?
James White moved to Clapham and married Emma Sarah Crockford 1869

1851 census
Elizabeth Baverstock abt 1837 Newtown, Hampshire, England Daughter-in-law? Burghclere Hampshire
George White abt 1822 Highclere, Hampshire, England Head Burghclere Hampshire
James White abt 1847 Newtown, Hampshire, England Son Burghclere Hampshire

Hello Willim

Thanks for the message, I've not had one about this John for a while. However I do think our families are related. Firstly though I shoud point out that as far as the date of Maria and Moses' marriage goes 1815 is correct as I have just checked by notes which I copied from the parish registers and IGI. the exact date is 17 December 1815.

Maria's father John Baverstock was born in Newtown, Hampshire in 1756 and on 17 December 1778 he married Sarah Lambden in the village of St Mary Bourne, Hampshire. They had nine children including my ancestor James Baverstock (1797-1832) and Maria.

I have the Baverstock tree traced back to Baverstock (born c1732) who died in East Woodhay, Hampshire in 1810. If you let me know your email address I can send you all the details.

Can you tell me more about this 1851 census you mentioned? Have you got a copy of the census you can email me (either a scan or a pdf file)I am trying to work out who this Elizabeth is.

Whereabouts are you? I'm in Watford, Hertfordshie, UK.

Once again thanks for the message and I hope to hear from you soon.

matt

Hi Matthew
Thanks for the Information my e-mail address is ww58@btinternwet.com I lived most of my life in Braintree Essex, I currently live near Truro Cornwall. I hope to visit Newtown this year and try to do some research at the county records office. I not sure if you know that the film and book Watership down was based on Newtown common. My Great grandfather James White moved from Newtown to Clapham London abt1865 and was head cowman hard to picture cows in Clapham.
I should be able to send you a copy of the 1851 census if you let me have your e-mail address
Do you think this could be the same Elizabeth Baverstock from the 1841 census?
((The ages of people over 15 years old were usually rounded down to the nearest 5 years. Therefore, someone who was actually 24 years would have their age listed as 20, and someone who was actually 27 years old would have their age listed as 25.))

(There was a large house called newton, which belonged to a banking family I wondered if that’s how Newtown got its name)
Thanks for your help

The marriage date for Tim Lambden and Elizabeth Hopgood was 1749 at St Mary Bourne, Hampshire (I do not have the day and month). I am trying to connect my Nathaniel Lambden who married Sarah [surname unknown] and had three children all baptized at St Mary Bourne Church, Andover, Hampshire - Nathaniel 23 Oct 1751, John 15 Jan 1758 and Elizabeth 16 Mar 1766. Elizabeth was my 3x great grandmother and she lived to be 95 years old. She married Isaac Farmer 16 Aug 1789 and their youngest daughter Ann married John Blake (Blake is my maiden name).

There was also a marriage between George Lambden and Marie Night in 1675 at St Mary Bourne.

Elizabeth Kipp

P.S. would appreciate a copy of your family history. Thank you for offering.
