My Grandfather was Allan Fender Taylor, born i think in 1895. He always talked about Holy Island as his place of birth but i am not certain it was. My father Billy Taylor was born in 1932 to Kathleen Mary Taylor (nee McDade

This is interesting. I'm not sure if you have an actual date of birth for Allan as i'm certain he was 80 when he died in 1985. Do you have a date of marriage to Margaret Timms.. maybe my grandparents were not married!!! My grandmother used his name but was a fairly arty bohemian character. My fathers birth certificate names him Billy NOT William. I dont know of my grandfathers (Allan) siblings so will have to ask my father (Billy) for some information. Have you been to Holy Island?

Hi there, i saw my dad, Billy Taylor today. He found all this quite facinating. In an earlier mail i mistakenly said my grandfather Allen Fender was 80 when he died in 1985 but he was in fact about to be 90. He was born 21 Dec 1895. My father dsnt actually know much about his fathers family apart from he always said he came from Holy Island. I have a recollection of seeing my grandfathers birth certificate and am quite sure he was born in the Biker region of Newcastle Upon Tyne. Dad seems to think he had sisters but nothing certain. My father was an only child, born in London and evacuated to Cornwall as an 8yr old. He only went back to his parents for a short while after the war (4yrs)then he returned to Cornwall. Hence he is very sketchy about his roots. There seem to be so many Allen Fender Taylors born in this area around the same time. This of course isnt unusual but makes searching very difficult. Sorry i cant shed any more positive light on your search. B

ok thank you for that... i really need to get a birth cert for Allan to confirm his date of birth as im quite sure he was born on the shortest day (21/12/1895) making him 90 in the year of death. i hope your search is progressing well. It's very difficult when everyone had very similar names, don't you find? thank goodness there is more imagination now which will make it easier for our ancestors!!!
