Surnames: DURY, BLAKE, PRIOR
Hi Clare,

I have a strong suspicion we are distant cousins. I didn't think I had any BLAKEs but if your Hannah DURY is the one that I have baptised 31 December 1843 at Farmborough, Somerset to Charles DURY and Elizabeth PRIOR, then we are related and I have the DURY tree back to the 1750's.

I don't have all my data with me at the moment but please get in touch and I will get back in touch.

Regards
Kevin

Kevin : Thank you for your message - I should have been more specific.

I seem to have a mother and three daughters, viz.

The mother is Sarah TILEY or TILLEY. She appears on the 1841 Census in Tellisford, Frome, as TILEY, aged 70, a Laundress, with a Mary Ann, 30, Laundress, a William TILEY, 20, a Fuller, and Elizabeth TILEY, 4. All of the above are "born in County".

On the 1851 Census a Sarah TILLEY, Widow, aged 82, Laundress, born "Somerset, Flutton" is at 5, Duke Street, St. Marylebone, with Martha SHORE, unmarried, 52, Laundress, born "Somerset, Farnborough", and Sarah Harris, Grand Daughter, 15, Unmarried, born Dartford, Kent.

Sarah Harris I know to be the daughter of a Mary SHORE born about 1795, died 27 June 1847, who married an Evan Watkins Harris, an Independent Minister.

Martha SHORE I know to be the sister of an Ann SHORE born 27 Nov 1792, died 28 Dec 1862 who married a John SHEPPARD in London in 1816. Ann SHORE is shown on the 1861 Census as being born in (what appears to be) "Little, Somerset".

Later on in 1871, Ann SHORE's daughter, Martha SHEPPARD married a James SHORE (b.1838, Gloucestershire - d.1907, Wandsworth, served in the Royal Navy)from a SHORE family who seem to have settled in Poplar after moving up from Somerset/Gloucestershire/Bristol. The menfolk of these latter SHOREs were Anchor Smiths and Black Smiths.

FHGent.

Thanks, not much luck with the TILLEYs I'm afraid. I can't find anyone from your first paragraph - Sarah TILLEY and children, although I suspect Elizabeth is not her daughter. Flutton, maybe Clutton or Sutton.

The only Martha SHORE I could find was baptised in Farmborough 17 March 1790 to Benjamin and Martha SHORE and has a sister Anne SHORE born to the same parents and baptised in Farmborough 20 April 1788.

However, there is another Anne SHORE baptised in Farmborough 25 Dec 1792 to Josiah and Sarah SHORE which fits better with the information you provided.

And where it gets more interesting is that there is a Mary SHORE also born to Josiah and Sarah SHORE baptised in Farmborough 11 Oct 1795.

If you are interested in these daughters I think their parents - Josiah SHORE (widower) married Sarah ADAMS (spinster) in St Swithins Church, Walcot, Somerset 21 Sep 1788.

I like this bit. The reason he was a widower is that he first married another ADAMS - Ann ADAMS 2 Nov 1783 but she died 17 Dec 1786. Within two years he'd married the other, quite possibly her sister but I haven't investigated further to discover if this was the case.

That's all I have for now. I hope it helps.

Regards
Kevin

hi Kevin,

It does sound the same one as I have Hannahs parents as Charles Dury and Elizabeth Prior.

Excellent. I will send you what I have on your ancestors when I return home in a couple of weeks.

Can you please email me at kdavies99 at hotmail.com so I will have your email address. Also, if you have any information on Hannah and her descendants you can share that would be great. I had no knowledge of the BLAKE connection.

Many thanks
Kevin

Surnames: BRIDGES, BLUNT, WILLIAMS
Hi Kevin,

Thankyou for the details about George BRIDGES, son of Marmaduke and Mary. I would be very grateful for any details about his possible brothers and sisters.

I do realise that the dates could be an issue as there are discrepancies in the dates that I have for the birth of George, but his convict conduct record states that he was 26 - whether that was at the date of the trial(2 Aug 1845), or during transportation(20 Dec 1845 to 16 May 1846), or immediately after I'm not sure. His trade is listed as 'farm labourer'. Unfortunately there is no mention of his relatives.

At his first marriage to Elizabeth BLUNT(30 May 1853) George was 32, but at his second marriage to Emma WILLIAMS on 6 Jul 1868 he was listed as 45.Still seems that the 1820 record would make sense though, don't you think?

Kind regards,
Helen Ryan

v. William BRIDGES, aged 21, coal miner, son of Marmaduke (coal miner) married Matilda BRIDGES, 22, daug of Richard BRIDGES (labourer) 31 Mar 1844 All Saints Church, Farmborough.

?. Charles BRIDGES, 29, labourer, son of Marmaduke (coal miner) married Elizabeth BRIDGES, 23, daug of Joseph BRIDGES 28 Oct 1849 All Saints Church, Farmborough. (not sure if Charles is a son of your Marmaduke).

Contact me is you require any more info.

Hi,

It looks like Martha was a widow when she married HARDING so COX is probably the surname of her previous husband. This makes it rather challenging on the wife side not knowing her maiden name or age.

I guess you already have their potential offspring:
Thomas HARDING bap. Timsbury 28 Aug 1796 (twin)
Martha HARDING bap. Timsbury 28 Aug 1796 (twin)
Mary HARDING bap. Timsbury 07 May 1797
Thomas HARDING bap. Timsbury 09 Dec 1798
Joseph HARDING bap. Timsbury 27 Jan 1799
Benjamin HARDING bap. Timsbury 23 Mar 1800
James HARDING bap. Timsbury 15 Jun 1800
James HARDING bap. Timsbury 09 Apr 1802
Ann HARDING bap. Timsbury 19 Jun 1803
Samuel HARDING bap. Timsbury 20 Nov 1803
Susan HARDING bap. Timsbury 05 Dec 1805
Wiliam HARDING bap. Timsbury 06 Apr 1806
Betty HARDING bap. Timsbury 21 Feb 1808
Betty HARDING bap. Timsbury 25 Dec 1810
Thomas HARDING bap. Timsbury 26 Jan 1817

My best guess is that the father Thomas HARDING was bap. Timsbury 27 Dec 1761 to Thomas HARDING and Mary HOLBROOKE who married Timsbury 15 Sep 1755 with the consent of their parents (so they were young). This would tie in with their first children's christian names.

If this is true, his siblings would be:
Mary HARDING bap. Timsbury 22 May 1756
Sarah HARDING bap. Timsbury 13 Jan 1760

Does any of this help?

Martha HARDING, ..

Surnames: BRIMBLE, COX, HARDING.
Hi:

I believe Martha HARDING was born Martha BRIMBLE.

Martha BRIMBLE married John COX in Newton St. Loe on the 15th of October 1786.

Newton St. Loe is five miles from Timsbury.

There is a death recorded for John COX in Timsbury on 11 May 1792.

I found most of this on the LDS site but the death/burial of John COX came from Find my Past.

Hope this helps
Valerie
