I trust you will forgive me for taking the part of the devil's advocate.
The parish register transcripts prepared for the Archdeacon's visitation of 1803 (signed by the curate John Green) does not give the name of the mother of the Charles
Phelps born in 1802 and naturally, nor does the LDS's extracted data.
What proof have you that that Jane
Arundell was Charles's mother? (In J. X C's marriage entry her name really does look like "
Janes") There were other William
Phelps' marriages in GLS around that time and although submitted entries by LDS members seem to have made a leap of faith about Charles's mother, one must not trust such entries without documentary evidence. Some submitted entries in the IGI may be correct but there's no way of knowing for sure.
At
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatch... you will find extracted data of five Charles P's baptisms and you will see that all were extracted from the same film. Extracted data for three Jane Arundells can also be found (1774, 1778 and 1787). I searched my records for 1775 to 1787 but found only 82 year old Jane
Phelps' burial, so perhaps there were two Thomas Arundells in Bisley at the same time.
