Don't worry about no having any information for me. I am retired now and have been researching the Bobbett family for some years . I'm always happpy to follow a new line.

I have moved back 10 years to 1881 census and found your family as detaied below;-

Robert Bobbett (head) 47yrs. Farm Labourer born Wookey
Mary Bobbett (Wife) 40 yrs born Mudgley *
Arthur Bobbett (Son) 12 yrs. Scholar born Wookey
Ruth Bobbett (Daughter) 8 yrs. Scholar born Wookey
Ann Bobbett (Daughter) 6 yrs. Scholar born Wookey
Oliver Bobbett (Son) 2 yrs. born Wookey
* very small village 5/6 miles from Wookey

I have also found Robert Bobbett in my 1851 census, unfortunately he had left home at this time so I cannot prove who his parents were yet.

Robert Bobbett (Servant) 16yrs living at Wells in the house of a farmer Joseph Hobbs having 99 acres.

I have got some more information in the pipeline but will have to get back to you.

I saw a marriage entry in BMD dec qtr 1893 for a Joseph Bobbett registered in Bedwelty ref 11A 166 wife either Mary Deasy or Mary Jane Dyke. I guess that this was your great grandfather. I would guess he might have left Somerset for a job in the coalmines - my paternal grandfarher did the same thing in the same area around the same time.

You might be interested to know that there is at least 1 other Bobbett descent living in New Zealand - my second cousin lives in Auckland and is also very active in family research.

Hi Jim

I've got some more information for you although I must confess that actual research was done by a friend of mine. She was visiting the county records office anyway so she looked in the Wookey church records and found the baptism of Robert Bobbett - Robert Bobbett baptised 17th August 1834 at Wookey parish church son of Joseph and Ann Bobbett (Joseph was a farm Labourer)

Joseph and Ann appear on the 1851 census for Wookey - Joseph is 55years old then and his birthplace is shown as Ashcott. I am certain now that he belongs to my Bobbett family at Ashcot and therefore we must have a common Bobbett ancestor. I think this would be Richard Bobbett born 1756 and that would be 2 more generations further back but I will have to do a bit more work to prove it.

I'll get back to you again when I've got the answer.

Bill, this is very exciting. Please thank your friend for me. I guess this might make is cousins (many times removed)! I've been doing some Internet searches to see what I can find... but then again, I'm not sure what I'm looking for. Now I can focus on Wookey and Ashcott. Thanks again, Jim

I went through some boxes and found the names of my grandfather Albert Bobbet's brother/sisters.

Samuel and Emily were halfbrother/sister.

The other brothers/sisters are as follows. Charles, Arthur, Oliver, Richard, Bessie, Ruth, and Annie.

Not sure if that will help anyone or not. Jim

I'm still booking for Bobbett's in New York. Samuel Bobbett married Ann S Higgs, and James Higgs married Bessie Bobbett. Samuel was a half brother to my grandfather Albert Bobbett. Samuel's father was Robert and his mother was Elizabeth. Robert remarried Mary Slocum ... and she is the mother of my grandfather. I hope this helps find a connection between our Bobbett branches. Jim
