While researching my own Deighton family from Huntingdon & Godmanchester I also managed to acquire information on Whittlesea Deighton & family. A direct descendent of Whittlesea is: Paul Orr, Box 1085, Burlington, Iowa, U.S.A. 52601. As far as I can assertain there is no relationship between my Bartholomew Deighton (1810-1850) & Whittlesea - but of course one never knows for sure as the OPR's for that area are very hard to read. According to my notes, Whittlesea was born 1805 to John Deighton & Elizabeth Green - all of Godmanchester. I am sure that Paul Orr can help you.

Mary Dighton and Whittlesea are related. Whittlesea Daniel is my great great grandfather. Have been told that some one from the family went to Australia. Have been in touch with Bob Orr.

My husbands' g/grandfather William Dighton came to Australia in 1923. His father was Whittlesea Daniel Dighton publican of the Godmanchester Arms Hotel. There were 9 children in the family and I believe that only William came to Australia.Any more information would be appreciated, can provide some Australian research.

Some Dightons / Deightons joined the Hunts Cycles in the first world war - coming from Godmanchester in the then county of Huntingdonshire - some details on my website at www.huntscycles.co.uk. If you contact me with the childrens names I will search my database on the soldiers for you.

Thank you for your Deighton offer of research. My Deighton left England in the 1860's & the remainder of the family who lived in England have been extensively researched. No WW1 Cycle Corp. that I know of. We are are descended from Bartholomew Deighton & Eliza Goss of the town of Huntingdon.

Please excuse the delay in replying to your Deighton request last October. A death in the family has put genealogy on hold for awhile. If you still require information on Whittlesea Deighton - please let me know.

Hello Kittie Dighton - I am sorry to report that I am not from the Whittlesea Deighton family. My Deighton line is Bartholomew Deighton of Huntingdon - a very short distance from Godmanchester where Whittlesea came from. In my research of Bartholomew I noted the Whittlesea family - just for general interest. A direct relative of Whittlesea is Paul Orr of Burlington Iowa, USA, The last e-mail address I had from him was: boborr@abelink.com
Wehave spoken on the 'phone but we are not kin. Bartholomew's father was John Deighton also from Huntingdon. One of Bartholomew's sons was transported to Australia. I even went there but unfortunately he left no kin. We are from the Canadian Deightons.
Cheerio, Mrs. P. Lindsay
